Remember when we used to keenly listen to the scores from around the grounds on the tannoy at half-time? the only way most people had of finding out, unless you had a transistor radio.

Top flight half time scores were displayed at the side of the pitch using alphabetical match codes.

A B C
1 3 2
2 0 1 and so on...

The codes for the matches were in the programme.
