Tuesday we had no vocal leaders on the pitch
We had a cobbled together 11 & we are currently down to bare bones
He has had a full pre -season & 17 games to fully understand the strengths & weaknesses of each of the players on the pitch - this also includes their individual mental strength & character when the game they are playing is running away from them
We don't have Joebo on the pitch giving the rallying cry when we are chasing the game
Tuesday fully exposed the shortcomings within the playing group & the fact we are so easy to play against
The tactics given to the players could be way over their technical skill set & yet as soon as we concede the wheels fall off
Every team in the league will view us as an easy touch
The comments he has made to the media regarding the players he has at his disposal will not help the players whose confidence is probably shot to pieces

We are one of the smallest clubs in the division, smallest budget, smallest squads, we are always going to be up against it. Especially with a lot of injuries.
Schumacher didn't win an away game before he jumped ship.
Does anyone think we would be any better under anyone else with our budget.
Trust in the club, our profile is higher, when we are on it we play great football (at home).
Players seem to want to play for him, let's see this out
Yes, I think under an experienced competent manager we would not be thrashed over and over again looking like non league v premier league, That is my problem with Rooney, not our league position.

Itā€™s not the first time he has done this. Remarkably and surprisingly he did it after our very first game when many excuses would have been available. None of us liked the approach of previous managers who often deflected all criticism, but this is too far the other way.

Iā€™m not sure about his man-management skills, he only seems to be united with the team when we have pulled off another last-minute miracle, but to be fair none of us really knows how it is behind the scenes.

I am still of the view I and others put out there at the start of the season, and is increasingly becoming common currency, that he is expecting too much from lesser players, and cannot or refuses to acknowledge it and adapt tactically.

He gained plaudits at Derby for working under difficult circumstances, but he had an established Championship squad there despite the transfer embargo.

I feel he needs to work on our defensive shape at least away from home. Iā€™d take three 0-0s over two heavy defeats and a narrow win (not that weā€™ve even had one of those) because it would instil some discipline and give us something to fall back on.

I voted to review things at the turn of the year as thatā€™s when league-table gaps start opening up. If we had just three more points at this stage we might not be having this discussion, whereas in January the occasional win doesnā€™t move the needle as much.

But he is right with his comments.

The fringe players have probably been knocking on his door saying their ready and lets face it most of them have been poor at best. None have really pushed for a 1st team start except maybe Pleggy and hevwas awful on Tuesday.

The fringe players have proven they are not championship starting standard.

I'm hoping Houghton gets a chance and finds his last season form with Rands though.

I expected almost exactly what's happening given we appointed a head coach with a background full of mediocrity.

Though even I didn't expect us to have banked 6-1, 5-0 and 4-0 spankings by the end of November, not to mention a 3-0 thumping in which we almost literally didn't turn up.
Come on, mediocricy is being really generous. I love WR (as a person), love how he has embraced the club, city and comes across as an honest, likeable bloke and clearly is trying his best. But has no evidence to point to in reaching the lofty managerial heights of achieving mediocracy.

Who on earth could get a tune out of the squad players we have available due to injuries? It's not his fault. Pep would struggle with what we have.
But they are not that bad. Apart from Pallson. Should be capable of being competitive. A National League side would have played better the other night.

Wayne Rooney is a modern possession based coach. He tries to get the team to play out from the back, retain possession, high press, etc. Unfortunately the squad players as a whole, do not have the ability or it would appear, heart to play to a level of intensity required at this level. No doubt a Gary Rowett, Tony Pulis or dare I mention his name Gareth Ainsworth, would possibly grind out the odd result errr no. One thing Home Park hasn't lacked is entertainment!. Unfortunately for us that entertainment has continued away for the fans of the team that we play. You pays your money you takes your choice as they say. I much prefer to stick with Wayne no matter what. Trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear is proving difficult and needs serious investment from our board in January. Actually I, ve got a solution why doesn't Wayne buy the club, then he wouldn't possibly get the sack and we would then finally have an owner with serious money!!. Problems solved all round!!.

Fair enough to all the replies. I too am perplexed about our away form. Iā€™m just not sure whether any other manager could realistically do any better with the resources at our disposal
You seriously think any other manager would have us lose 4.0, 5.0, 6.1 (and could easily have been more in all these games) with no sign of improvement or tactical nous?

If he knows our players are not capable of playing this way why oh why does he persist with it or is he to stubborn in his believe that one day it will finally click all over the pitch
If he does not have a Plan B that allows our players to play to their strengths then he is very much one dimensional in his approach in respect of coaching & tactics

It is easy to forget that when we lost 4-1 at Ashton Gate last season and played pretty badly (but arguably not as badly as three of the games this season) the team were booed off and it was considered a very big deal - we immediately bounced back and never saw a performance like that again under Schumacher. Under Rooney it just seems to be considered acceptable to many fans just because we have a relatively low budget with a shrug of ā€œwhat could anyone else do any better?ā€ I just canā€™t get my head around this attitude.

Much is made of the fact that we have to travel large distances for away games and thatā€™s a major reason for our abysmal record and yet we only had to travel to Exeter to fly to Norwich.

Last season two hours up the road to Bristol produced the worst performance of the season this year again a journey just a little bit further than that to Cardiff gave us another dismal performance.

Is the travel as big an issue as weā€™re led to believe or a convenient excuse?
Convenient excuse

Fair comment Johnny

But for me tactics are the issue- if your side is shipping goals away from home....then go back to basics and tighten up the defence ...

It's not rocket science, is it ??

Are some of our fan base still in awe that Wayne Rooney is our Head Coach & that our players have the opportunity to work with one of the greatest British Players of all time & that his name alone will be pulling power for continuing media exposure & the urgent investment we desperately need- or attracting players to the club in respective Transfer Windows
He maybe one of the greatest British Players of all time but he is not pulling up trees when it comes to being a Head Coach
Tactically naive & stubborn who will adopt the same approach today at Ashton Gate after he thinks the very public dressing down he has given the players in the media will be the kick up the behind to play the tactics he his so embedded in

His press conference was terrible. He has lost confidence in himself as evidenced by the greater hesitancy and the hat.

To answer the question of why our away performances are so different to our home ones with ā€œitā€™s because we donā€™t react to going behind away in the same way as we do at homeā€ is a hopeless response. How about addressing how we are set up away from home so we donā€™t concede so easily and early in the first place?

And itā€™s not the travel, or the food, or the hotel or any other incidental factor. Itā€™s his tactics and formation, made worse by his inability to get a tune out of the players, even if they are the second string.

I will happily eat my words at 5pm.
