Absolute disgrace. Yes it wasn't deliberate but that is not the criteria. Intention is not part of the Laws as far as I know (except for handball). Balogun was sent off, automatic ban no opportunity for appeal. The word corruption has been used about a number of FIFA decisions, this is another one. I realise others aren't keen on Internationals but I have always enjoyed them but given this and the performance by Paraguay (don't mind them playing defensively - just the thuggery), I am getting less interested by the match.

Which has hardly ever been used ... the last notable time being to allow Ronaldo to start this WC campaign (he should have been suspended for the first two games after being sent off against Ireland).

Whether Bagolun should have received a red is irrelevant (the take from nearly everyone is that is was unfair) - he still received it, and the accepted protocol is that you take the punishment even if it was harsh. Now every single FA is going to challenge every single red received in international games if they feel it was harsh - and there'll be a time in the not so distant future when a card will be issued in similar circumstances to Bagolun's and then FIFA will have to suspend that too because, you know, precedents...

Infantino, thanks to his infatuation of Trump, has opened a can of worms here now.
