Quiet word with Mark Robins, and if he's up for it then time for Rooney to go.
Do you, or anyone else for that matter, seriously think that someone like Mark Robins would come down here to be Head Coach/Manager at Argyle? I think it’s very, very unlikely myself. We don’t offer people like that enough… enough money in wages, enough money to build a squad and enough prospect of success to satisfy their ambition and career development.

Let's be honest Wycombe signed Matt Butcher they ain't doing anything in the championship if they come up.
All the teams in the least 2 seasons have struggled barring Ipswich the gap is massive
My point was they ain’t spent much and have sourced some good players on small fees . We are patchy at recruitment generally . Having said that getting players down here is a tough ask.Although they enjoy it once here.

No but I need to feel some sense of positivity 😁

I half don’t want him sacked because it will be a ballache having social media plastered with his comments / excuses in podcasts for why he was removed

Because whoever replaces him will, again, be picked by Neil Dewsnip and Simon Hallett. They’ll be inexperienced and not suited to managing a Championship football club with a low budget. We have this weird idea as a football club we’re so much smarter than everyone else, no, Steven Schumacher was smarter than everyone else, I don’t want him back but without him we’ve been a mess.
Spot on Cobi. Me neither re. Schuey and we're not smarter than others as our dealings post Dec 23 have shown.

We knew that at the beginning of the season we would be in a relegation battle. Nothing has changed. We will still lose more than we win and draw. We need to get our points from clubs around us, anything we get from playing any of the top half of the division is a bonus.

At the moment we are keeping our heads above water, but we have been dealt a raw deal with the massive number of injuries that we have to key players. Houghton looks like another one.

Of course we have dipped in form, what else did you expect from mostly second team players?

We have no choice other than to continue to play the players that we have fit enough and hope against hope that we can get players back from injury, not add to them.

It wouldn't surprise me if we dropped to the bottom by January, but we will have our players back, hopefully, soon after and the window may relieve us of some of our frustrations.

We cannot afford to sack Rooney, and it is not his fault he has lost his best players.
We have not only lost to two teams near us in the table with poor home form but have been destroyed. Ten goals conceded with abject performances and a lack of effort. It is Rooney’s job to coach the players to perform but they seem to have ignored his instructions. Like it or not we are not fit to be in the championship. Even with a fully fit squad our away form has been dismal

Can we all please remember Hallett has said he’s happy with us to be a yo-yo championship league 1 club, as fans we all want to be competing at the highest level it’s hard for us fans but if the owner doesn’t mind being that we have to accept that’s what we’re going to be.

When Rooney got appointed and we headed into Pre season it was mentioned that Mike Phelan could possibly join as his assistant. Phelan even spoke of it on talksport saying it was good that Rooney was back in management and if he needed any help Phelan would welcome a call. I think its a missed opportunity to have not approached Phelan as hes been in the game for years at top level and still held high in regards for running teaching academies in the Manchester area. His knowledge of tactics and youth development would certainly have helped both Wayne and Argyle. Maybe Phelans the better move to replace Dewsnip idk?? I Still hope Wayne can turn it around with results and make us safe as league 1 is a tough ol place to get out of.

I will take that as a no then.

Wouldn’t have been my choice.

Was it smart? Well we don’t have the financial model to compete so they needed to get more media attention on the club? It was a gamble because the other options would have struggled l imagine with the same budget. The board are hoping to raise the profile of the club & find a quicker route to get more money to compete at this level.

I think the board knew relegation was a huge possibility, and if they didn’t then they have their heads in the sand.

If you going to make Rooney accountable then shouldn't we start looking at the bigger picture.

Dewsnip - Head of Football. Would have a say in who Argyle are appointing. The strategy in terms of how Argyle would tackle the Championship l feel is totally wrong. One of the lowest budgets & he believes you can recruit in the manner we have in order to play open, expansive football. The away issue at Argyle has been going on for some time. We have neglected it, and now been faced to tackle it with an injury crisis.

Jimmy Dickinson - Head of recruitment. Whilst a manager/ coach has players they want to bring into the club l question the data analysis that is being used to identify that Palsson & Ogbeta are two competent defenders never mind at Championship level, l would say league one level. Last season we left ourselves short of cover in the forward areas. We also knew how poor our midfield was at the start of this season. We have neglected areas of the team & thar has meant any decent recruitment like Grimshaw is difficult to give credit for because they are surrounded by dross.

The backroom staff, including Nance. You have to question these people when lm watching a team dancing backwards towards their penalty area allowing opposition to score without being challenged. Someone like Nance might love the club & l appreciate everything he has done but we are now at a level you can't be sentimental. Do these coaches have the coaching skills etc to take very average players to perform at Championship level? I watch Argyle become a terrible passing side. When under pressure they can't find their own team mates. This has been happening since the Lowe era especially in away games. How can a championship team be this poor in possesion when their goal as a club us to be a attack minded, passing football team.

Finally, the board. They set out their stall. They wanted a club to play a certain brand of football. Schumacher had a mid table budget for league one & despite there being flaws he managed to mask over them by getting every ounce of what we were good at going forward. The board feel we can turn water into wine the higher up the leagues you go. The championship shows us that you need to drink alot of wine to actually think this is possible. Argyle have done wonderful things under Simon Hallett's tenure but they were always fighting a difficult battle at this level by not having the infrastructure in place to fall back on. They appointed inexperienced coaches & then asked them to play an attacking brand of football. It was easy to jump on the Foster bandwagon & make him scapegoat but maybe it showed how our footballing model is asking much from the financial resources we have.

I am not asking anyone of these people to be removed. I certainly want Simon Hallett to keep running our football club. Yet we an injury list that is ridiculous at the moment l think l wanted to add some perspective why Rooney isn't they only one who should get much of the blame. I think the club have taken their eye off the ball too.
On the data analysis point, perhaps if Argyle shared some dummy data of the information they can access, then perhaps a few geeky fans could put down Football Manager for a bit and suggest some queries/scripts/deeper analyses to help pick out the gems.

The sort of thing where someone says, "if I had access to this data I'd be looking at..."

Gets a little work done for free and you never know someone might actually suggest something useful that spots someone we overlooked...

I could imagine it's the sort of thing I would help with were I out of work and trying to create opportunities. A good thing to quote at an interview for a proper job as an example as passion in the field, etc...

Please tell me what wrong with the eye test.

How is it most people knew after a few games Ogbeta & Palsson weren't the greatest at defending.

Who on earth taught Palsson to shadow dance his way back into his own box without confronting a player into a challenge.

Don't need data, just common sense.

Data analysis of this kind should always be treated as "try taking a proper look at these players..."

I.e. just to save you time on having to do the eye test on everyone, not an excuse to buy blind!
