The reasons why Rooney shouldn't go?

If you going to make Rooney accountable then shouldn't we start looking at the bigger picture.

Dewsnip - Head of Football. Would have a say in who Argyle are appointing. The strategy in terms of how Argyle would tackle the Championship l feel is totally wrong. One of the lowest budgets & he believes you can recruit in the manner we have in order to play open, expansive football. The away issue at Argyle has been going on for some time. We have neglected it, and now been faced to tackle it with an injury crisis.

Jimmy Dickinson - Head of recruitment. Whilst a manager/ coach has players they want to bring into the club l question the data analysis that is being used to identify that Palsson & Ogbeta are two competent defenders never mind at Championship level, l would say league one level. Last season we left ourselves short of cover in the forward areas. We also knew how poor our midfield was at the start of this season. We have neglected areas of the team & thar has meant any decent recruitment like Grimshaw is difficult to give credit for because they are surrounded by dross.

The backroom staff, including Nance. You have to question these people when lm watching a team dancing backwards towards their penalty area allowing opposition to score without being challenged. Someone like Nance might love the club & l appreciate everything he has done but we are now at a level you can't be sentimental. Do these coaches have the coaching skills etc to take very average players to perform at Championship level? I watch Argyle become a terrible passing side. When under pressure they can't find their own team mates. This has been happening since the Lowe era especially in away games. How can a championship team be this poor in possesion when their goal as a club us to be a attack minded, passing football team.

Finally, the board. They set out their stall. They wanted a club to play a certain brand of football. Schumacher had a mid table budget for league one & despite there being flaws he managed to mask over them by getting every ounce of what we were good at going forward. The board feel we can turn water into wine the higher up the leagues you go. The championship shows us that you need to drink alot of wine to actually think this is possible. Argyle have done wonderful things under Simon Hallett's tenure but they were always fighting a difficult battle at this level by not having the infrastructure in place to fall back on. They appointed inexperienced coaches & then asked them to play an attacking brand of football. It was easy to jump on the Foster bandwagon & make him scapegoat but maybe it showed how our footballing model is asking much from the financial resources we have.

I am not asking anyone of these people to be removed. I certainly want Simon Hallett to keep running our football club. Yet we an injury list that is ridiculous at the moment l think l wanted to add some perspective why Rooney isn't they only one who should get much of the blame. I think the club have taken their eye off the ball too.

I think this is a fair point. It has to be a collective responsibility.
For me, the time has come to stop pretending we can play attractive attacking football on a small budget and start being more pragmatic and forming a team who can compete at this level.
We all hate playing Millwall but they are a sustainable Championship club, we are relegation fodder.

I think we’re getting the worst of both worlds though, it’s not like we’re playing nice flowing football but getting picked apart. We can’t keep the ball or create chances AND we can’t keep the ball out of the net.

I think possession based attacking football is still definitely the way forward, but I’m not convinced we’ve done enough in recruitment or on the training ground to achieve that.

But that’s how it started isn’t it? We played more or less the same home and away. Fans saying we needed a different way away from home because we were being picked apart. I remember it well.

So now we’re more defensive, have tried 3 different formations in 4 away games but we still lose heavily. Now we moan because it’s not like we’re playing ‘nice flowing football’.

If we can’t cut it regardless of formation or whether we’re attack minded or defensive, what does that tell us?

How many times must this be said ? Rooney brought Palsson in without any data analysis. Palsson has been the weakest link in our defence in three away hammerings - Weds, Norwich and Bristol C. He also played poorly in the Preston home game - 3 conceded. That WR - alone amongst 000s it seems - cant see that speaks volumes about his coaching ability, and especially his understanding of defensive set-ups.

For me, this alone is the reason he must go.

It’s down to poor recruitment for me , budget related to that but there are good players in the pyramid we don’t seem capable of finding .Dont like Wycombe but they are an example and top of league 1 . Keep WR , get another experienced coach to support him and save the money to sack WR on a new Midfielder player and a striker as well as another defender. Butcher looked ok for Wycombe today !

The injuries point is fair enough - apart from the question about what's happening in training for our injuries to be so bad. But, injuries are no excuse for how passive and unorganised we are - that's poor coaching.

We use Brighton, Brentford etc as an example, which is sensible. But, both those clubs had a higher sense of practicality than we do; when they needed to grind out points, they did so. We're trying to play this open, attacking game with no-one in the squad remotely capable of doing so.

Now, is that Rooney? Probably not - he has a remit to produce a certain style of football. The organisation and poor coaching though, that's probably him.

It could be argued that we're overachieving to be outside the relegation zone. We did alright the first half of last season with Azaz in the team and Whittaker on form. Schumacher and Azaz going seemed to rob us of impetus and quality and we haven't recovered. It's served to show that the squad isn't very competitive at this level and we don't have the finances to significantly alter the fact. Some of the new signings have underwhelmed (significantly in a couple of cases) and I don't envy Rooney or anyone else having to make it work. We've done pretty well at home and enjoying some great moments. I feel for the people who've been to the away games this year, but it's all but inevitable that it's going to be a struggle.

It is not Rooney's fault. Simon Hallett is simply not rich enough to give him, or anyone else, the resources needed to fund a Championship Club.
Indeed, I would be very happy if Rooney agreed to invest 50 million or so of his own money in the Club to help Simon out and take a majority stake, subject to Rooney's agreement to hire an experienced Championship manager to help him run the playing side and with Coleen running the business side.

WR has been dealt a very poor hand, coming in after IF. Now we have injuries to key players.
Some players who wouldn't get into any other squad in the league. Some of the players need to be shipped out asap. I can deal with getting beat, but the lack of basic skills and lack of effort, doesn't do it
