I thought Simon basically ruled out flying regularly for environmental reasons a while back? I can't see it being something we are going to do apart from the very long journeys.

I agree with those that have suggested staying up country between e.g. Sat-Tue away games, never made sense to me to come back to Plymouth in between.

It is a sorry story at Argyle, but are there any figures available so that we can compare our number of injuries and games missed with the other teams in our Division?
I dont know but further back in the thread you will see a table listing Premier League injuries by total number of player days out which ranges from c250-650. A guestimate of ours (based on average of 5 days out for every missed game through injury) is c1000. Bearing in mind PL have bigger squads, this is far beyond random variance

Those stats are more difficult but from footmob you can see how many minutes / games have been played for each player . Looking at the top 150 by minutes played , Argyle have 4 players in the top 150 ( Boateng , Mitchell , Sorinola and Tolaj ) putting us close to the bottom of the table . By comparison Lincoln ( who in theory have a smaller squad ) with 9 are at the top followed by Cardiff , Stevenage , Wycombe and Stockport.

Travel can’t really be blamed - Exeter’s record is better - nor necessarily style of play ( in itself ) as Lincoln among others play a pressing , direct style .

So it’s one or more of bad luck , over training , poor conditioning , or signing players who are injury prone/ aren’t physically suited to the style of play .

It’s the new pitch and training pitch, they put far too much pressure on the leg muscles as they do not have the same level of underground support, no coincidence that our injuries have increased massively since the upgrade!

Is that a fact, or are you making assumptions?

The training pitch is essentially the same pitch we won the league on, where we hsd a pretty good injury record if i recall

Get a helicopter brand sponsor, build a helipad at Home Park/Harpers/Goals/Foulston Park somewhere and lease (or buy) a large passenger helicopter to travel to the longer away games.

I'm surprised Argyle haven't considered it before tbh.

👍

These are the sort of big infrastructure ideas needed to take us into the championship, and to stay there IMO

And actually affordable too if you factor in extra seating in the corners .Let's use some back of a fag packet maths :( based upon guestimation and subject to correction)

100 extra seats ring fenced for this idea x 25 quid per game x 23 games= 575,000

÷ 30 away trips ( on average) ( to include cup games) = 19,167 quid per game travel expenses

Could those figures work ??

Would work even better with a new training base upcountry

But as a few mates have advised me when I discussed the idea ' nah it'll never happen' ' have you had a bang to the head'....both quite possible 😉

Ability and timing i was fully behind the Bali Mumba sale, but the one thing i mentioned at the time was his impressive record of availability. Fewer players these days are able to play 40+ games a year, those that can do have the special something that appears to allow them to escape injuries is getting more valuable year on year.

Can of worms opened - he also ruled out betting companies advertising but I see Skybet were on the electronic boards during the Cardiff game. Anything can change!
