or “it’s the game we love”Always thought a good strap line would be 'Argyle is our club, Plymouth is our City'.
Plus the shield must stay. Please would all North Americans leave our badge alone.![]()

I feel a ‘Life of Brian’ moment coming on!I think that the legend beneath the city coat of arms, used as the shirt badge from 1949 until 1964, is a word short. My memory is that it should read TURRIS FORTISSIMA EST NOMEN JEHOVA - God is our tower of strength. My photograph is from the Toffs replica shirt but I think the original shirt badge did not include the "est". View attachment 22784

Interesting. We didn't do Latin at Public but whichever translation is correct, I assume Est = Is.My Latin master at school told me it was ‘The strongest tower is the name of God’.

Sadly, for so many of the seasons since I started watching in 1967 a more appropriate motto would be, 'God, give me strength'.I think that the legend beneath the city coat of arms, used as the shirt badge from 1949 until 1964, is a word short. Anyone for Latin grammar?![]()
Does anybody remember what the fanbase reaction was back in 75 when that more modern PAFC initial badge was introduced? Obviously way before internet times, but I would suspect there must have been a bit of an outcry.
