I may have the wrong end of the stick -~Stoke are not short of money why not just pay the entire fee for Maxi in one goI don’t know why, but your suggestion re FFP makes sense.

Maybe it suited us - pay in instalments ( we still get the money ) and accept a sell on . That’s what Chelsea and Ipswich did with Delap .I may have the wrong end of the stick -~Stoke are not short of money why not just pay the entire fee for Maxi in one go![]()
Football finance is all rather confusingMaybe it suited us - pay in instalments ( we still get the money ) and accept a sell on . That’s what Chelsea and Ipswich did with Delap .
Maybe - but I think it’s the headline figure that counts for FFP . However, it’s really close to irrelevant. For FFP , he’ll go in the books at what £550k for the next 3 years ( his length of contract ) as that’s how amortisation works .I don’t know why, but your suggestion re FFP makes sense.
All that money, so little integrity.![]()
If there were better teams, why did he not sign for them....? Probably because only Stoke were prepared to meet our price. He only played a dozen games, we got relegated with him in the team, BUT we got our money back as well as a potential future payout. After all the criticism over the Hardie and Randell clauses this one possibly works in our favour.....I do like Maxi. Sorry to see him go, but I think there were probably better teams that were after him. Stoke really are a poor choice.
Again why? They're not a rival of ours, Schuey is no longer there. Who cares?
yeah too many players have abandoned the ship at the end of season, hopefully we pass them on the way up at the end of the season, whilst they are heading the way downI wanted to see him do well, push for promotion, not another relegation fight. (Couldn't care less about Stoke).
As I understand it, players are treated as depreciating assets over the course of a contract. So if Maxi is cost £1.5m he will be valued (for accounting purposes) at £1m after season 1 and £500,000 after season 2. I wonder if most fees are paid in installments so the cash payments roughly mirror the depreciation?I may have the wrong end of the stick -~Stoke are not short of money why not just pay the entire fee for Maxi in one go![]()
That’s correct re the accounting treatment. Re the instalments think they are each individually negotiated. I know that with Adam Stansfield where he was sold for £15 m that Birmingham in the first year only paid £1M but he’ll be in their books at more than that .As I understand it, players are treated as depreciating assets over the course of a contract. Ah fair enough. I think Stoke might surprise a few next season. Divin Mubama looks a player.I wanted to see him do well, push for promotion, not another relegation fight. (Couldn't care less about Stoke).
