As my Twitter profile will testify to, one of my musical passions is 70s electronic music and I've been a massive fan of Vangelis ever since I watched Carl Sagan's Cosmos as an impressionable 10yo - my mum got me the soundtrack to the series for that Christmas, and a large chunk of that was music by Vangelis which I fell in love with. And before that he was part of the Greek prog-rock band Aphrodite's Child along with Demis Roussos (forever and ever...) on bass.

He made so much good music, and his soundtrack for Blade Runner must be up there as one of the best soundtracks for any film.

RIP Vangelis.
