Sergio Mendes' song Mas Que Nada, the original version, not the one hijacked by the Black Eyed Peas, is a thing of beauty that's for sure. Google it on You Tube and enjoy. The collective orchestra were called Brazil 66, presumably as part of the build up to the most famous World Cup ever. Enjoy!!.
Herbie Flowers died apparently on Thursday September 5th at the age of 86.He was the bass guitarist on loads of albums from the likes of David Bowie, Lou Reed, T Rex,Elton John, Bryan Ferry, Paul McCartney and many more. Apparently by the end of the seventies he had played on over 500 hit records. Probably his most famous piece of guitar playing was the entry to Walk on The Wild Side by Lou Reed.

Luckily enough he only played bass on it and didn't actually write it. I suppose when you are a session musician you get all types of requests.
Just checked, written by Herbie Flowers and Kenny Pickett. I remember him playing in Marc Bolan's band in the latter's TV show Marc, in about '77.

The mother and father of all bass lines. The bass was double tracked with an ascending line on the double bass, with a descending line on an electric bass.
Wikipedia says he met Clive Dunn at a party and the latter challenged him to write a hit song for him. Which he duly did of course.

The chap from Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) , really is deceased now. Kenneth Cope passed yesterday at the age of 93. Fantastic 60,s British series still on and watched by me some evenings I must confess.
