Harold Budd, minimalist and ambient composer, died a few days ago from Covid-related ailments, aged 84.
Many may not have heard of him, but his music was brilliant, simple, and beautiful. He had worked with the likes of Robin Guthrie from the Cocteau Twins (and one album with the band themselves), Brian Eno (Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror and The Pearl), and John Foxx (front-man to Ultravox before Midge Ure ... and still churning out brilliant albums now). I would play (and still do) a lot of Budd's albums to chill out to late in the evenings.
Loved his work. Often found (esp. if drink had been taken) that you had to read back a bit to remember what was going on and what you might have read the previous night but very clever stuff. You could feel the tension in his characters.
Scarey cos it was real. :nworthy:
Heard it was pneumonia? Strange because he was listed on the ward as: The guy who came in with a cold. :coat:
RIP Mr. Cornwell. Inventor of the original Smiley!!
