Some absolute tripe being posted on here about our Police. Some obviously have an axe to grind probably over some speeding fine they received or getting caught doing something they shouldn’t have been doing.
Unless you’ve actually tried Policing football fans or even trying to reason with them then you really have no idea what your talking about. Admittedly some are not worthy of wearing the uniform but most are hardworking people trying to keep the peace. To put it bluntly some of you are talking absolute bollocks. If your so concerned about the Policing in this country there always looking for new applications.
I should explain that the original post was explaining that something went on and clearly said that you don’t get the full facts from Twitter. My concern was that if these actions were taken against Lincoln fans it does not bode well for the idiot element that travel to watch Argyle away. Having been to 6 away games this season, I am more than aware that we have a few of them. I obviously doff my cap to your and Johnny Two Teams knowledge of football crowd policing. I have no experience of this except being on the receiving end.

I reckon I’ve as much experience of Policing of football at Hillsborough as any of you. I’ve never had any problems with them at all in all my years.

What I have seen though, is gangs of moronic football hooligans, behaving like animals. The Steel City derby makes Exeter v Argyle look like a tea party.

There has been trouble in Sheffield today and it’s not surprising with 3,000 away fans at the match.

Ian, you’ve been to Hillsborough twice ffs. Give over. Your two posts are the worst on this thread. You’re better than that.

I've been to Rotherham (both grounds), Sheff Utd, Doncaster (both grounds), *Leeds Utd, Barnsley, *Bradford, etc multiple times. Or does only Hillsborough count then?

They're known for being arses, kettling fans is one of their favourite tactics.

As I say, I rate our police, but not those sods.

Edited to add Leeds and Bradford are West Yorkshire.

The herding of fans certainly has its flaws. I used to drive to away matches. In one instance at Loftus Road I was lucky to get a parking space beside the ground a stones throw from the entrance. As we left after the match the police marched us all off in the opposite direction to where I needed to go. I tried to explain to the nearest policeman and he wasn't having any of it and on and on we went til I finally managed to break free and had to walk all the way back to my car against the tide of home fans.

As stated in my original post I was concerned that it did not bode well for the two away games at Hillsborough. I did not criticise the police as I did not have the full facts. What I will say is that as a greying, disabled, teetotal man in his 60’s, there is only one police force that have threatened to take my walking stick off me because I ‘was waving it about’. (I was actually walking to my seat at the time and struggle with stairs. I have to swing it to the next step up) No prizes for guessing which

Obviously when dealing with large crowds of people, many of whom are intent on disorder, there will be some innocent people who are inconvenienced by Police tactics. Anybody who thinks that the Police have the time to have a conversation with every individual who wants to go in a different direction, is in cloud cuckoo land. Not to mention that the hooligan element themselves try to use that excuse to avoid Police cordons and get back to what they love doing best - causing mayhem and disorder.

Blame the real culprits, the hooligan element who create the necessity for Policing of certain matches, not the public servants doing their best to keep order. Policing at these major football grounds is a much bigger deal than dealing with a couple of hundred in the BPE. At Hillsborough for instance, like it or not, many sides in this league will see it as a major day out. Lincoln for instance, hadn’t played there since the late 70’s I think and took 3000 fans. Argyle fans will also see it the same way and can enjoy singing ‘you’re not famous anymore'.

Argyle travelling support has had its issues with hooliganism over the years, but I’m sure you wouldn’t like it if Argyle supporters in general were sweepingly referred to as yobs, in much the same way as say, Millwall are.

If Argyle are still top in January, I dare say a large number will go up to Hillsborough. All I can say to anybody who hasn’t been before is that the Policing is no different there than at any other major football ground. If any Argyle fans, or indeed Wednesday fans, cause problems, some of you may be unlucky enough to get caught up in things. There will be cordons at the Leppings Lane end - just don’t be an 4rsehole and expect to go wherever you like after the match if there is disorder.

I get all that bigalf, but if as you say, you’re not in possession of the full facts, why doesn’t it bode well for Argyle's games up there?

It sounds like there has been disorder up there today and as usual, a lot of that will have been around the railway station. There will be enough crap on social media posted by people with an agenda, without decent people like yourself joining in without actually possessing any facts at all, let alone the full facts.

I can't remember it was so long ago. :ROFLMAO:

I saw a copper at Millmoor (I've been there 3 times by the way) grab an Argyle fan by the neck, the Argyle fan was about 5'5" and lifted him off the ground. A middle age woman shouted to the copper and he said 'You're f*&$%# next'. Always remember that. Only about 400 up there that night. Not what I'd call community policing.

By the way, the last time Argyle were in the Championship and therefore regularly in receipt of large numbers of visiting fans, there were 'kettling' or escort operations to and from the railway station and from the city centre on multiple occasions. I know that for an absolute fact.

Some of you wouldn’t be aware of it at the time because you’d be busy queuing outside the Lyndhurst, or already in the ground as these large groups often didn’t get brought up to the ground until almost kick off time.

Whatever SYP did today, all forces follow national public order guidelines in dealing with suspected hooligan groups. Generally, unless you’re very unlucky, you won’t have a problem at Hillsborough. Just don’t pop down to the railway station to have a gander if there’s trouble afterwards. You might end up on a train to Plymouth when your car's at the Premier Inn or similar. (That is a joke).

I’ll bet you were trying to take the Tivoli end with your mob Ian. Are you sure it wasn’t you that got lifted by the neck 😀

The other thing I remembered about that night was Bobby Wiliamson having a standing ovation.

and you have just posted some absolute tripe south yorkshire police are well known for being thugs clearly not all of them and i have seen on many many occasions police up and down the country getting away with all sorts when football is involved, its funny how they don't treat all student demo's or blm marches like that do they i wonder why and 16000 police stood back and did nothing during 3 days of rioting in London a few years ago it's a pity they weren't West ham Millwall fans it would have been sorted out quicker.

The only time I've ever fallen foul of the cops at football was in the 90s at Exeter away when I was a bit naughtier and we ran City out of their own pubs. Got baton'd, kettled and chucked on the train after the game, but we didn't bitch about it. We were a pain, they were a pain back.
I'm now older and wiser.

At Rotherham away we got put in a craphole pub near the ground. I spoke to some bobbies outside the pub who were really polite, they were working our game, then doing Sheffield Utd v Brum later that evening. They were happy to talk and have a bit of banter with me. Another argyle fan came out, squared up to a young female cop and angrily asked why Rotherham was 'a town full of paedos' and got a slightly different response from the same coppers. My point being, your attitude/behaviour directly affects others attitude towards you. Betaris Box.

I accept others have had a different experience to me, but having been to Bradford, Rotherham, Donny over the last few seasons, I've found them absolutely fine.
