Posts and videos on a number of social media platforms tonight of South Yorkshire Police in Sheffield 'Kettling' 500 Lincoln fans and forcing them on a train back to Lincoln whether they wanted to get a train or not! Obviously do not get the full story on Twitter etc but does not bode well for the two away games.

I remember same thing happening at a Luton game once where everybody in the Away end was marched to the station.

I am not surprised. South Yorkshire Police have a reputation for their repugnant attitude towards football fans that goes back even before Hillsborough. I had personal experience of this in the early 70's but then, of course, we were all classed as 'hooligans'. They've been using this excuse ever since.

I went to watch West Ham at Swansea one year in the late 70s/early 80s and was put on the football special (remember them) to London, first stop Reading. Lucky for me and unluckily for British Rail, those awfully nice Cardiff fans put the train windows in as we went through their fair city and we had to change trains at Bristol. So managed to sneak on a train back to Plymouth

South Yorkshire police are well known to all fans whether they in Yorkshire supporting a Premier League team or League 2 team as an awful police force who just detest away supporters full stop. Argyle fans have suffered from them from the late 70s. I first came into contact with them in the early 80s when they threatened me with arrest if I didn't hand over my quite expensive camera I had with me. Reason given I may have used as weapon to throw at Sheffield fans, yeah they actually gave that reason.

As it is a long way from Hillsborough to Sheffield station, it would suggest that if they were at the station they would want to get on a train, or did the Police just round people up at random at the ground and marched them the 4 miles and through the city centre to the station?

Some (not all) police officers seem to get very carried away with the authority they are given.

They have a tendency to speak to ordinary, law-abiding people, the same way as they would speak to street thugs and criminals. This makes some cops come across as unprofessional trouble-makers to the ordinary person.

Probably depends on the time (which I don't know)... perfectly reasonable for them to be at the station on route to Hillsborough at 12/1/1.30... less so if it was 2.45.

As I said you can’t get all the details from Twitter . The fact that it is Wednesday fans posting, giving the police grief for their actions in the videos and apologising for this to Lincoln fans makes me think that something has happened. And whatever the whys and wherefores ‘kettling’ what I, a few weeks ago, found to be the friendliest and most innocuous fans in the league would seem an overreaction.

Do any of you see the total irony in labelling an entire Police force in just the same way that you say THEY label football fans.

it would be like me saying that Pasoti are a bunch of anti SYP tw@ts with little or no experience of that force, when perhaps it’s only a few of you. (Gaspar and one or two others at least show some balance)

I had a bad experience outside Anfield at the hands of one cop in the 70’s. Ditto in Bristol under escort to Ashton Gate. I wouldn’t dream of labelling the whole of those two forces then and certainly not 45 years later.

Some absolute tripe being posted on here about our Police. Some obviously have an axe to grind probably over some speeding fine they received or getting caught doing something they shouldn’t have been doing.
Unless you’ve actually tried Policing football fans or even trying to reason with them then you really have no idea what your talking about. Admittedly some are not worthy of wearing the uniform but most are hardworking people trying to keep the peace. To put it bluntly some of you are talking absolute bollocks. If your so concerned about the Policing in this country there always looking for new applications.
