When we were looking at him in the summer, his value went up as we showed an interest but did we keep hold of the money we were prepared to pay for him or did we use that for Al Hajj? Also, I think the money went up to spoil our bid because they needed him for Europe and we went in too late.
The figures quoted at the time, if reliable, suggest we spent about a third of the "Baidoo money" on Al-Hajj

I heard a whisper he’s definitely coming although not my normal source. 🤞
I heard from a good source that the only reason he didn’t come in the summer was due to internal politics at Elfsborg. Manager threatened to walk if the Board sold Baidoo late in the window. So hopefully now they have had time to replace him, they will be more willing to let him leave.

I hope the promise of investment means he’s one of 3-4 to come in. Not pushing the boat too far but enough to give us some impetus for the second half of the season.
I also like to think that there is a player in Al Hajj and that he’s just taking longer than most to get up to speed of the Championship.

we already have a 'part absent' own at best as SH grapples with his us/uk tax -position do we really want to sell our sole to a US 'investor with all that will bring?

then again if yet another mug punter like SH is willing to splash another £20m plus bring it on!

i can enjoy the ride for £400 per season, why spend £20m plus ????? what a mug

We seem to be pinning an awful lot of hope on Baidoo signing and being the missing link in midfield. If we sign him he will undoubtably need time to adjust to the championship and our tactics. Seem to remember some thought Al Hajj was the answer to our problems and see how that’s turned out. Any signing is a gamble but we can’t afford to make many more mistakes.

Agree
We need some steel in central midfield and fullbacks who can defend
With the injury crisis it’s highlighted that we need reinforcements across the team but CM and FB areas are where we need to splash the ‘new’ cash

How disrespectful and ungrateful to someone who has remarkably improved our football club at a huge cost to his personal wealth.

You can only enjoy the ride because of Simon Hallett, without him there’d barely be one.

Mug.

I know for a fact that Baidoo still wants to come.
Even if this is true, its still a gamble by Argyle.
We have been signing players from foreign leagues which are below Championship standard. Al-Hajj is an example. He might have looked good playing in Denmark, but isn't up to the required standard here.
Pleggy, Waine, Bundu, Palsson.... they haven't set the world alight either.
I'd rather focus on British based players- even if they are in the lower leagues. You have a better idea of what you are likely to be getting.

It's true he wants to come. Whether a deal can be agreed with player and club is another matter though.

I remember when both players were rumoured to be coming, I checked our the obligatory show reels and stats. Baidoo is on another level to Al Hajj.

As for British based players, well I suppose if we have this money coming, we may well be able to focus on bristish based players. Baidoo does look a special player though.

So are they going to be Championship standard if from lower leagues?

You know what you are likely to be getting… which is exactly why other clubs are going for them and we need to be different. But a mix is ideal I think, and clearly we’ve had great success in general with foreign players historically. I believe Al Hajj will come good too.

And tell Brighton they shouldn’t have signed foreign players from leagues weaker than the Championship and Premier League, they’d be about £400m down in player transfer profit.
