I disagree.

Just as now our trajectory is upwards, so were our chances once Miron got the team playing right (by his way). Had he come just a few weeks earlier that trajectory would've started earlier and thus carried on longer, he/we just ran out of time.

Rescue us from relegation PLUS the kudos within English football minds of the cup run and he'd be eyeing a promising start of Project Argyle phase 2 as the vehicle to get an EPL job.

Irrespective of family, Irrespective of geography, Irrespective of us being 'little old Plymouth' (in the wider footballing consciousness) that's just too big a carrot to pass up for what had been a poisoned chalice previously at Schalke. Yes Argyle too had been a poisoned chalice but he'd have been half way through that project as opposed to starting all over again... foundations already laid versus 'bare earth'?

And the financial black hole has come from the multi million pound loss of Championship status and a record breaking signing commitment made before MM arrived.

It all comes down to staying up or going down. And Mexijan was right, if Wazzer had been binned off just a couple of weeks earlier then the dumb luck of getting Miron would've meant the coin fell the other way. Right now we'd be an upwardly mobile Championship side... closer to the promotion end than the relegation end.

And who knows what could happen from there, the investment Simon has struggled to get interested could've finally seen the potential and invested.

Sliding doors innit.

All now a matter of opinion but I respect your right to your opinion whilst disagreeing with it. Miron could've stayed and Miron will not be scapegoated for the financial black hole while I still have breath in my body.

He was the best chance we had of Championship football this season and competitive, EPL directed Championship football this season. And had he been given just a little more time by an earlier start that's exactly what we'd have now... plus no 'black hole'.

It's not fair to put all our woes on Miron, it comes from persisting with Wayne Rooney for far longer than was merited. They got lucky with Miron, but they should've rolled the dice earlier to have maximised that luck.

I’m certainly not putting our woes on him, however he was not available 3 weeks earlier, so sacking Rooney earlier would not have bought him here earlier. We certainly did not get lucky with Miron - we were relegated anyway, he spent heavily on loan signings (who took us down) and then he left costing us money in compensation in the way he did it. If you think that’s lucky I really don’t know what you think bad luck is.

The black hole was already there last season, that’s why it’s perilous now we have been relegated. If we had stayed up it would have been smaller however we would be paying much higher wages and we would still be in a black hole.

I repeat though, we could have thrown £20m at him in the transfer window this season and he would have left for Schalke which is what any sane person would do.

I too think he would always have gone if Schalke had come a-knocking.

Another season on a shoestring at the foot of the Championship (or maybe against the odds keeping us mid-table) versus the very plausible chance to take the German version of Aston Villa back into the top flight...

Combine that with geography, his young family in Austria and surely a bigger salary and it would have been a no-brainer.

Without other offers, sure - he would probably have stayed with us to work on Brand Muslic in the hope that someone like Bournemouth or Wolves might want to take a punt on him if he had worked miracles with us in the meantime.

However, I have previously - objectively and without any intended slur, quite the contrary - referred to Muslic's refugee background, and I'll say it again: he comes across very much as a "jam today" utilitarian. He will take whatever better opportunity arises in the here and now, without looking back.

I kind of agree...but saying that the loan signings "took us down" implies that we were bobbing along nicely beforehand. The loan signings were what almost kept us up, despite the fact that we ended up needing almost playoff form to survive.

He noticeably improved a lot of our existing players too. Hardie, Bundu and Palsson spring to mind. Another mark of a good coach.

No one is saying he isn’t a good coach. Certainly not me, but it is a fact we went down despite the loan signings.

Very tight league. In the last five games, every team has picked up at least three points and the highest is nine points. Everyone is beating each other.

Agreed. I said at the time he had failed in his main objective, and I got slated for it. He then came out and said the same thing…

I also said I wanted him to stay on at Argyle, despite him being something of a… well, git.

Interesting reading this thread. I have an interesting question for debate...

Scenario, Miron came in 4 weeks earlier and we stay up on the last date of the season.

Schalke come in mid summer whilst Mirons building for another season in the Championship...does he stay or does he go?

Depends. It did seem like the Schalke offer came as a result of Miron's agent agitating for a move. If that didn't happen, there might have been no offer, but i think he goes to Schalke if the offer still comes - they get gates of 60k. I can't see many turning that down to stay with us.

Of course he goes. He be mad to turn down Schalke. They are a massive club in Germany, in the top three biggest clubs. The manager who gets them back to challenging at the top of the Bundesliga will have their pick of jobs across Europe including some big Premier league clubs.

Top again after a 2-1 win. Didn’t realise that they had another Home Park connection with Loris Karius, ex Liverpool, in goal.
