And it's this kind of striker that we need to unearth because buying one who is already proven is clearly impossible for Argyle for any number of reasons. We absolutely need to be looking to identify the best young strikers in the National League and League 2 etc before they have their breakthrough season, alert everyone to their talent and bunk up their price. We might also source a player of this ilk from clubs at higher level who have tried to do the same but then not been able to develop the player, or not seen the necessary level of development quickly enough. The signing of Oseni fits this profile, as does Pepple to some extent but not quite as clearly. I'm inclined to think that we're better off signing 3 or 4 hot, but not yet fully proven, prospects from League 2/National League/Scotland etc than forking out for one marquee signing and a development player. There is always going to be a bit of luck in buying the right development player but if you put your budget into buying several and not splashing it on a big money signing, you increase your chances of hitting the jackpot. The hope is that for every few development players you sign, one goes on to big a multi-million pound asset.
