""It's a big embarrassment.

"I thought we did OK in the first half and then in the second I could feel them coming at us a bit more and I made changes to try and help us with that.

"But after we conceded the first goal the players collapsed. This is something I have told the players. It was the same at Norwich away and Leeds away.

"When you want to have a career in football you have to dig deep at times. I feel the players showed a lack of character and fight after we conceded the first goal and that was really disappointing."

This is enough to get him sacked. Surely. The man is a disgrace. You simply don't do this.
Especially when we are playing kids.

This type of approach is why we get reckless red cards.

Iā€™m glad he is hurting but lashing out isnā€™t the way to go.

sounds like the coming to the end of the road comments.

However, the reality is that we have just played two clubs who both get 25,000 gates and have a much bigger playing budget and expectation level amongst the fans.

we are seriously out of our depth as a club in every sense. What was Hallett thinking appointing such a high profile manager in the first place. that is two serious errors of judgement from him. out of his depth as well.
The reality is that we've just played two clubs with debts of over Ā£80m and Ā£90m respectively despite having crowds of 25,000 and, in Norwich's case, several years and 10s of Ā£millions of parachute payments.

Unfortunately the way its going, the behind the scenes documentary on Netflix will probably only have a couple of episodes!. I like Rooney and I like his honesty, why shouldn't he "throw players under the bus" if they play terribly. Why should the manager be the one who always gets berated and not the players who can't actually pass from A to B or put any obvious effort into their performance. Reading the Bristol City website one or two mentioned our "walking football". I don't mind any player who is basically rubbish as long at he obviously gives it his all. They can't all be top players especially if they are playing for us!!,generally the maths doesn't allow it. Look get real, our budget is nowhere near the top of League One! and miles away from being competitive in the Championship . In life you get what you pay for, simple as. The fans over the last 5+ years have invested as much as any club could possibly have asked for,can we say the same for the board. Make your own judgement,i,ve made mine.

I have no problem with that interview, thought it was honest ā€¦heā€™s not thrown the players under the bus , heā€™s acknowledged that he picks the team and prepares the game plan so accepts the criticism, but so should the players .

I think a run like this shows the negative side of having a no nobhead policy, weā€™re too nice ..apart from grimshaw berating Palsson for ā€˜jockeyingā€™ their wide man for half a mile until he was 12 yards from goal and able to score at ease , I didnā€™t really notice any anger from the players ..you need someone out there whoā€™s not afraid to dig people out and demand that they work harder and show some courage..aside from edwards I donā€™t see many leaders in our squad
Spot on!
We look like we have too many players who seem to be going through the motions and stealing a living at this level.
We can argue about tactics all day, but if players take a half ar#ed approach you end up with results like today.
Too ble##y right they should be called out.

We are, basically, a league 1 team trying to mix it in the Championship. I donā€™t see a lack of effort just a lack of quality. We are lightweight and naive. If you want to compete in this league you need experienced, championship players. 4 of those and youā€™re paying Ā£20M minimum and thatā€™s without wages! We just donā€™t have the money whilst being ā€˜sustainableā€™! Unless we get new investment I suggest we have to accept a drop to league 1 to eventually come back up.

Sounds like there's no "team" mentality. Always refers to it as "the players". Very much an Us and You approach. I don't like it and a few games ago I was on the fence, now I want him and the footballing side at Argyle to go. A whole fresh slate.
Neil Dewsnip to go with him as he will restrict our options re. an experienced replacement for Wayne....good bloke Neil, done a brilliant job in lower leagues but not sure he's a Championship DoF and has been influential in last two appointments which have been a disaster IMHO.....

He is looking after number 1
He is one arrogant individual who will find out sooner rather than later that he has lost the dressing room if he continues with publicly lambasting our players
And what pray should he do? These players are letting him down and are not fit to represent the club. Joe Edwards has more passion and fight than the rest of the team put together

And who, until they played Argyle ,were struggling at home.

Heā€™s aiming it at the more senior players , the lads get stick from a very young age tbh.
They can handle it and are well paid for it.
Desire and fight need improvement big time .
Heā€™s right.

Agreed , played in plenty of games where a ā€œpoorerā€ team won as they worked harder .
We arenā€™t working hard enough which Iā€™m really surprised by.

He's right but you don't publicly criticise your team. You do it behind closed doors. You take responsibility for the performance. I just think it was obvious from his time at Birmingham that we needed a team psychologist and media advisor to work alongside him. This was so obvious that I am astounded that we didn't think about it.

It screams small club mentality. Protect your players, build them up. He knows the coaching side but not the behavioural side. Still think it could be turned around but needs action now before it's too late
