I was greatly saddened when I got this news early this morning. I had only a brief,
correspondence-based relationship with Charlie but his letters will remain very special. We also had a single telephone conversation, which due to his deafness was a bit one-sided, but I learned much about the pre-WW2 period. Despite the wonderful age he reached, the finality of his passing was still a shock.
RIP Charlie, a very special man.
