PLYMOUTH HOE 1946. Looking east towards Mount Batten. Look out for the flying boats in the CATTEWATER

Yes, me Dad used to take me to both the speedway and the stock cars.
I remember Johnny Marquand being world champion in the latter (he owned a garage down Notter Bridge for many years after). I loved the noise and the smell on those Friday nights and, if Argyle were home as well on the Saturday, a great weekend was assured!!

I remember the Fleetwood Mac poster too (I think there was one of them outside the chippie next to The Cherry Tree pub). I was a bit too young for that though, would have been great to see Peter Green in his prime.

Thanks OG, brought back some great memories for me!!

Yes, it really did show the City in a very favourable light! I wonder if it will produce any increase in visitor levels?

As an ex volunteer (for about 2 years) I can tell you that this WILL push the numbers right through the roof.

Great bunch of people work there for very meagre wages I can tell you. They really care what they do, and that shines through doesn't it?

Yes, I hope so, it is a lovely aquarium and is another great asset of the city that we Janners don't push enough.
Unfortunately, I am unable to watch iplayer from abroad.

Two RAAF Squadrons operated Sunderlands out of Mount Batten during the war. I was shown a painting in the Australian War Memorial Museum in Canberra showing a Sunderland near Mount Batten with a little bit of the city in the background. One of the staff asked me where I came from and pointed me towards it. It's a small world.
