Bowman looks barely National League level to me.

That's a bit of an insulting description of a player who has scored 32 goals in 97 appearances during 2.5 seasons at a club that has consistently competed at the top end of of League 2.

You don't have to like him or think he's up to the standard that Argyle should be looking for but I don't think there is any need to trash the guy and suggest that he's playing ~2 levels up the football pyramid than he already is, very successfully.

I wonder what the comments would have been on Kieffer Moore during his passage through Truro City, Dorchester Town and Yeovil Town. Mick McCarthy took a gamble on him and look at the stage he is on now!

I was thinking the same. I'm sure there was much debate about the prospect of Argyle signing Keiffer Moore on PASOTI a few years back (perhaps around the time he joined Barnsley (2018) or Wigan (2019)?). The general consensus was that he was useless, nowhere near the standard required for an Argyle player etc. I certainly don't remember may good things being said about him.

He joined Ipswich Town in 2017, still at a good age (22,23,24?) for a championship club, with a larger squad and room for developmental signings, to be taking a chance on a player from a lower league.

Out of that list Bowman would have been 4th choice. We ultimately need that 4th striker to be a full on target man., A guy that doesn’t just compete to win headers but someone who wins aerial battles regularly and has good hold up skills to keep us higher up the pitch and bring our other quicker and more skilful players into the game. And if it’s a permanent signing it needs to be someone who is capable of still be effective in the division above in what they do. I can see an older wily player on a free transfer or maybe a tall younger player from a higher division on loan.

I’d say Ryan Lowe knows a fair bit about scoring goals as well, having scored 185 of them in the Football League.

Good luck to Bowman. The only reason I commented was when you described him as ‘upwardly mobile’, as if his career is on an obvious upwards trajectory and we need to be in on it. Not many non-league/League Two journeymen’s careers take off at the age of 29 after a 14 goal season in League Two.

I can only repeat my point that with Ennis, Hardie and Jephcott between 21 and 24 years of age, it makes no sense to bring in Bowman. If he comes here he’ll be on the bench, and paid like a 4th choice lower end League One striker. He’d make more money by staying as the main man at Exeter, or in his case, being an option at Shrewsbury when Cotterill wants to launch high crosses into the box. Bowman has got a 2 year contract out of Shrewsbury with the option of another year - if he is obviously struggling at League One level (the first time he has ever played at this standard) then that is a fair time to wait around to get rid of him.

Do Liverpool or Man City have a specialist flick on merchant?

Lowe wasted time and energy messing around with Nouble.
Football has moved on, Argyle don’t play like that, and don’t want to play like that.

If we need a ball holding up in any case, I haven’t seen many better than Niall Ennis this season.

I think our 4th choice striker needs to be adept in another position, such as Byron Moore. In the side to offer cover up front, but with a skill set to bring to another position.

Do we play like Man City or Liverpool? Far from it.

We now have defenders who can defend better apparently than our last back 3 but unfortunately it also seems that they are no better with the ball..

So they are expected to pass it around the back when we are pressed by the opposition?? Sometimes we just won’t be able to and need another tactic and also sometimes to see a game out.

We need a plan B if plan A doesn’t work,

As players cant officially join their new clubs until the 1st July after their existing contracts run out on the 30th June, can they join up with their new Club for preseason training before then as they are still being paid by their old club and there must be an issue over things like employers liability insurance?

Surely for any player in that position the selling club just finishes their contract early and the buying club starts their one to match. All by mutual agreement, which ought to be straightforward to achieve.
