New Pod: Underground Overground Wombles 1-3

Archie and Tom are joined by pod debutant @Graham Clark to discuss Wimbledon 1 - Argyle 3 - a game that had it all. A barnstorming start with Argyle taking an early lead, a wobble, and then substitutions that worked in Argyle’s favour for once. The tide turned, and it ended up being a very convincing win.

The joy doesn’t stop there, as the trio look around at other results on the day, all going in Argyle’s favour and giving those play-off hopes another boost — if not fully reignited, then certainly fuelled further.

In Part Two, there’s an update on the women’s team, including a look back at that huge Real Bedford win, which may have helped secure second spot.

There’s also a discussion around the redundancies that drew so much attention during the week, with around 20 members of staff let go, including Charlie Rose. The group discuss the communication around it, the perceived lack of clarity, and the wider financial state of the club and the football landscape.

Things end on a lighter note as they look ahead to the play-off picture, the final three games, and what could be a huge six-pointer away at Bradford in midweek.

Always good but I wasn’t sure about the Charlie Rose stuff. Making people redundant is never, ever easy and if we all know we need to find savings desperately, then we can’t intervene in that process. It’s an internal process and that’s that. Nobody is advocating for the other 19 as vigorously so I think this excessive coverage is a bit OTT. I really don’t think we should be dwelling on this other than the wider point you make about the overall quality of club comms. That’s a different matter.

I felt the same. There are legitimate questions to be asked of our finances, decision making and communications. All fair game but the conversation focused on the specifics of a single employee far too much for me. Tbf I think the host was aware of that himself but failed to steer the conversation. Might have benefitted from a bit of editing

I felt he, and the others, made an assumption on the way the rest of us view this. It ruined the show for me.

I didnt like that either. Any business in financial trouble will have to make difficult decisions about staff. Many of us predicted it was the comms team that looked most bloated and would suffer cuts. One would hope Charlie has been offered generous terms and has a body of work to his credit that will allow him to get a new job relatively easily. Its not really one the fans know enough about to have such strong opinons in my view.

Just to add a different viewpoint to the posters who thought the discussion on Charlie Rose was excessive.

I liked the fact it was discussed in depth here. Redundancy is always a challenging process for both managers who have to make the decisions, and the staff who are affected, both those who remain, and those who leave. However when decisions are made on who leaves a job role, businesses should look at the cultural and organisational capital that that individual provides. How much the individual lives and breathes the company culture, goes 'above and beyond' and how it contributes to the bottom line.

It's the 'One Argyle' mantra after all.

Understood, but do we know that they didn’t? I’ve no idea what criteria they used and that’s for the clubs internal processes

Would agree - I generally love the pod but didn’t enjoy that segment one bit. With the Wimbledon matchday moments capturing the day brilliantly post restructuring, I do feel we need to give the club a chance to adapt. Would agree that the club have bungled comms on season tickets though, quickly corrected, but easily avoided.

New Pod: Bantam Wait

So that’s that (sort of).

Archie is joined by Chris and Mark minutes after the final whistle for a rapid review of the game that all but cements another season in League One.

A frantic start and an offside let off after a quick free kick and - corner time - some chaos and a fantastic finish from a deserving, redeemed Brendan Wiredu. Some high quality counter attacking and at half time the dream is on.

With limited blame and some frustration, the second half became something of a siege against a team with a strong home record. Some poor defending and average goalkeeping contributed to an equalizer and from there it was fundamentally huff and puff against a house made of bricks. No Oseni when all we wanted was a goal - just give us a goal - one half chance and it’s all over. SHAME.

Other results - which at the weekend were favorable - were not great. So we need 6 and 2 others need to collapse: it could happen but let’s face it, it probably won’t.

UTBA (cries in the foetal position)

New Pod: Ben Win - Part One

It’s back on! A circus afternoon at Home Park and Argyle have made it to a meaningful last game of the season, for the third year running. It will need some freaky results but not the 19-0 win from last year - Archie is joined by Chris, Mark and Tom to talk it all through.

It all starts so well. A sublime pass and a perfect finish amongst one way traffic against a relegated team - and life is looking good. Until poor Conor Hazard has a rush of blood to the head, Argyle are down to ten and, not long after, it’s 1-1. Cue doom (and an impromptu quiz). Except, it wasn’t. The visitor’s goal proved to be their highlight as, for once, the ‘it’s harder against 10 men’ worked in the greens’ favor. An excellent performance from Ashby-Hammond, endless running, fluid possession and as half time approached things were feeling good again.

The second half started with a bang and another fantastic finish from the resurgent Pepple. Goals of the highest quality, with both feet: what a privilege it has been to see him play. Some late conservatism - enforced of course with 90 minutes with 10 men - but despite one moment, the result didn’t really feel in doubt. The last time we see some of those players at Home Park? Let’s wait and see.

New Pod: Ben Win - Part One

Welcome back! Part Two starts with the Fans Forum fallout, and then, to the play offs - with the women’s team securing a place and the men’s team in the mix going into the final day, it’s still - still - an exciting time. Will others help us out? Will we show up? Will we - ultimately - make it?

A quick random review of THAT 2004 QPR game and what all it meant tees things up for a week of wait and see. Only another 5 days until we find out.
