Can I just say thanks for these pods. They are really excellent. Measured, balanced and not prone to hyperbole. Keep at it!

Overall it is measured and balanced but it took me a week or two to listen again after the unwarranted attack on Neil Dewsnip. Can I just say thanks for these pods. They are really excellent. Measured, balanced and not prone to hyperbole. Keep at it!
ITV very helpfully did a flashback to Euro 2016 after the late game yesterday, we're not even in the same postcode as the barometer reading for low.....yet.EURO 2024 POD : Chirs, Alex and Archie discuss a dismal display, and wonder where Southgate goes from here. All very familiar, but is this a new low?

Sorry, should have clarified, was referring to a new low under Southgate.ITV very helpfully did a flashback to Euro 2016 after the late game yesterday, we're not even in the same postcode as the barometer reading for low.....yet.
I've just heard on the TV that today's the 24th anniversary of getting knocked out of Euro 2000 in the group stage, one doesn't have to look far for a bit of perspective with England, sadlySorry, should have clarified, was referring to a new low under Southgate.
But yes, perspective always good ! On track finish 1st and qualify. There are some systemic tactical issues that are a major concern though
It would appear that you don’t take much interest in England’s fixtures as I would say losing 4-0 at home to Hungary in 2022 at Molyneux was just a tad worse and that wasn’t a meaningless feature either.Sorry, should have clarified, was referring to a new low under Southgate.

Yep, that's certainly a contender, a fixture sandwiched in a run of 6 games without a win, which left Southgate on the verge of resigning ( but he still would have taken the team to the WC in Qatar ). 2-0 down at home to Germany, he looked set to leave, but England came back from the brink, drawing 3-3.It would appear that you don’t take much interest in England’s fixtures as I would say losing 4-0 at home to Hungary in 2022 at Molyneux was just a tad worse and that wasn’t a meaningless feature either.
No they don't, and whist's' I think it can be helpful to look back, I am not sure it's always helpful. It's like the age old debate we have at Argyle "remember where we used to be, x years ago we were playing Salford away etc". I think there's definitely a time and place for those conversations, but right now Southgate has several issues, seemingly of his own making, that he needs to solve.I've just heard on the TV that today's the 24th anniversary of getting knocked out of Euro 2000 in the group stage, one doesn't have to look far for a bit of perspective with England, sadly
Sky Sports News played a 24 year old video of Nick Collins saying "What went wrong?" this morning and it could have been played after any tournament in my lifetime, maybe this is just our level. No they don't, and whist's' I think it can be helpful to look back, I am not sure it's always helpful. Having said that, win on Tuesday, and a path to the final opens up, albeit with France most likely waiting for us in the semi's!
The Southgate era has been all about overcoming those thoughts, it would be a cruel twist in the tale if it ends in tears, with shirt weighing heavy on the players and their being a general tactical mess.Sky Sports News played a 24 year old video of Nick Collins saying "What went wrong?" this morning and it could have been played after any tournament in my lifetime, maybe this is just our level.
I'm the most blissfully, naïvely optimistic England fan around, but even I was arguing with the TV when Kyle Walker said we should take the positives out of yesterday's game, such was the absence of any.The Southgate era has been all about overcoming those thoughts, it would be a cruel twist in the tale if it ends in tears, with shirt weighing heavy on the players and their being a general tactical mess.
It's worth remembering, and this was possibly his point, that we are in a good position ( on paper ). We will qualify, and most probably in 1st place. Once you look a bit deeper though, there looks to be so many issues...I'm the most blissfully, naïvely optimistic England fan around, but even I was arguing with the TV when Kyle Walker said we should take the positives out of yesterday's game, such was the absence of any.
