It goes against our previous recruitment model. The signing of young players with high potential resale value ended a while ago. Cleverley complained about it, Tom Randle lost his job and since then Adams has been consistently signing players in their mid to late 20s with English league experience
You won't get much in terms of a striker if you won't pay more than 100k. Even 400k doesn't sound like a lot, no idea how good this lad is though. Can't imagine he gets the 9 shirt ahead of Bim, assume we are still looking for one more.
I really like Will Evans as a player and think he makes a lot of sense as a signing but hopefully we are not burning too much of our transfer budget on him. Just as we got the balance wrong last summer with too many young, talented but naive players in the squad, I think we need to be careful that we don’t go too far the other way. We are pretty well stacked with experience now (perhaps with the exception of up front which may explain this signing). I hope we do continue to look for exciting young talents for Cleverley and his team to develop. They are clearly very good at it!
I like the balance of signings recently. We've signed White, Mitchell & Cooper who are all 24, and Storer who's 21. Its certainly not a Dad's Army we're putting together.
I'd prefer Mellon, and expect there will be more funded suiters for Wareham. But it would be funny to see the fallout from say a £700k signing of Wareham.
I used to think that but I am encouraged by how season tickets have held up into the second season in league one and we still have a waiting list. I think our "hard core" has grown to around 13-14k that may stick around even through lean times.
Perhaps they'd be interested intaking a couple of Argyle youngsters on loan as pat of the deal.
