New Brighton from Wiki - New Brighton Association Football Club is the name of two football clubs from the seaside resort of New Brighton, in Wallasey, Merseyside in England. The original club founded in 1921 were members of the Football League from 1923 until 1951, playing 21 seasons in Division 3 North but were disbanded in 1983. In 1993, a club with the same name was formed and played in the West Cheshire League, until folding in 2012.

I remember reading a long time ago an account of such a pair of matches. It might possibly have been Jimmy Hill. Spoke about playing Argyle at home on Christmas Day and then playing cards and having a beer with the Argyle lads on the train to Plymouth for the Boxing Day match.

Never knew Grimsby ever had such a successful spell in Division One.
Also, eleven grounds (or their modern successors, and mainly in the North) where I have seen Argyle play, haven't staged League football this season.
Such a pity that the modern game has become so money dominated.

My favourite useless fact is that Old Trafford's highest attendance is for an FA Cup semi-final involving Grimsby. They were briefly a very good team.
