The original club founded in 1921 were members of the Football League from 1923 until 1951, playing 21 seasons in Division 3 North but were disbanded in 1983. I remember reading a long time ago an account of such a pair of matches. It might possibly have been Jimmy Hill. Spoke about playing Argyle at home on Christmas Day and then playing cards and having a beer with the Argyle lads on the train to Plymouth for the Boxing Day match.

Never knew Grimsby ever had such a successful spell in Division One.
Also, eleven grounds (or their modern successors, and mainly in the North) where I have seen Argyle play, haven't staged League football this season.
Such a pity that the modern game has become so money dominated.

My favourite useless fact is that Old Trafford's highest attendance is for an FA Cup semi-final involving Grimsby. They were briefly a very good team.
