Money in. Where is it going?

So with Maxi going (and hopefully the last big deal going out) let's see what money has come in over the past month

Outgoing
Maksym Talovierov £1.6M👍
Michael Baidoo £250000 loan fee🤦🤬🤦
Adam Randell £750k🤦
Dan Grimshaw £600K👍
Ryan Hardie £700k🤦

Thats around £3.9M in

Now we have waisted money on Baidoo and possibly Al Hadj to the tune of £2.25M.

If the figures are close to correct where is the money going because its not being used on the transfer market thats for sure.

Not a board criticism or any reference to the Staplewallets era, I'm genuinely interested.

Was this sort of thing how Simon saw us becoming sustainable. Whats peoples thoughts
When you say money do you mean cash?
Because with almost all transfers they are paid in instalments, so it is likely Argyle will have or in the rest of this financial year only received a percentage of the figures you list.

Until the fans forum, it's difficult to pinpoint where exactly the money is being spent.

At this moment in time, money might be spent on a few minor infrastructure enhancements before the new season.

Trouble is we won't know straight away, but eventually the club will explain.

Also, we know 'key' signings have yet to be made. Cleverley stated he is looking for a main no9. On top of this Argyle will make loan signings and we will need to play these players loan fees and wages.
Agreed it will probably have to wait for an explanation until the forum , when we’ll perhaps get a “ smoke and mirrors “ approach re finance and be told how the March promise about reinvesting funds not spent in January , additional shareholder funds , plus funds from sales , doesn’t apply now that we are relegated with the resultant drop in income . However, that might be being a bit harsh and I really hope that doesn’t happen .

On the face of it and excluding “ fortune income “ such as the Cup run and the Muslic compensation where I think the Board can genuinely make a case for withholding those funds , we should , using the reported figures have all of the Whittaker sale funds ( the Maxi purchase came from that , and the Boateng fee would be balanced by the excess from last summer ) of £5M ( after Swansea’s cut ) . To that add £2M ish from the sales / loans this summer .

However we need to deduct the £1M agents fees from last seasons transfers plus up to another £1M for signing on fees from last season . Then there’s the £1M we’ve already spent this summer plus further agents fees and signing on fees .

Once the deductions on player purchase come off we probably have around something like £3M - £3.5M left , which in the absence of any other sales, shareholder investment will need to fund the remaining signings , transfers and loans , ( including agents fees and signing on fees ) for the remainder of the summer and January .

Simon Hallett will probably say the quoted figures are incorrect ( too high) and that whatever the figures are we’re being paid in instalments , but that cuts both ways .

I do worry that when we receive a transfer fee we usually go and spend less on a new player. It is fiscally sound but quality of Footballer incoming may be a concern( like for like) - until we see them all in action we cannot really be 100% certain.

A large churn after relegation - OK but I am yet to see a signing of real intent. A player that comes and makes us all go "OK we mean business" as opposed to "Who?". No disrepect by saying that, but really I had only heard of half of our new guys.

There is plenty of time for this new statement signing. Plus the loan slots will be very interesting.
One of the reasons is because of agents fees and signing on fees- last season we signed 8 players permanently and 8 loans . We paid over £1M on agents fees and there will have been substantial signing on fees . Overall we paid around £5M in transfer fees so the agents fees were an additional 20% .

Wage bills, and you have to set some money aside for your tax bill, agent fees etc. Foster is probably still being paid by the club.

Trying to tally up the club finances - leave that to the club accountant.

Don’t forget the 6M for Whittaker. Late in the window in Jan which was untouched.

Whilst I think we do need to invest in players, I also think people need to look back at the days when would literally never pay a fee for a player (not that long ago).

I swear we spent like 10K on Simon Collins when I was young and thought he would be a world beater (he really wasn't).

So we should reflect on how far we have come over a relatively short space of time. Buying numerous players 1 million or over and regularly splashing out on players over 100K.

Sat in the bank account?

Last years accounts showed £10m available in cash, made up of season ticket sales, etc. I expect this years accounts will show similar or more.

Surely there are are couple of big points missing regarding the OP's post.

1. Baidoo may of gone out on loan but it does free up his wages and normally you do recieve some sort of loan fee.

2. Al Hadj might be sold this pre-season. Baidoo will still be ours after next season. So whilst money is wasted in the sense they are unlikely to play for us again, there is a chance we can recoup a significant amount of that money back. So it's not like that money won't eventually come back to the Argyle coffers.
You have to hope though that Baidoo doesn’t become a Jason Puncheon transfer in which we paid good money as a fee, lent him on loan to MK Dons throughout his Argyle “career” and then let him go on a free to MK Dons.
You’d think that any time we could have demanded a fee but then the Dons wouldn’t want him so he’d be in our stiffs for a year.
Now that’s typical Argo…
