Just booked train Taunton to Paddington, depart 07:30 arrive London 09:30. Got it for 53 pounds return, not 64 as I previously thought. Back on the 17:04 train from Paddington. That saves all the aggravation of rail replacement coaches at Plymouth to Tiverton 😁.

The bus replacement service isn't really that much of an aggravation. The normal train service from Plymouth to Tiverton Parkway is 75 minutes. The schedule for the bus journey is 80 minutes.

I’m hoping you’re right. There are 2 things that I’m worried about though. 1) Not enough coaches being there 2) 4 lads sitting in my booked table seats as they drove Tiverton and get on before us. If that happens they will have to watch out for Mrs D. 🤣

I would favour getting to Taunton and then taking the link road to the A303. It eventually links to the M3, which leads to the dual carriageway A316. This will get you easily to as far as Kew, south of the Thames and not a million miles from getting closer to Chelsea. This was always my favoured route in getting to Twickenham.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if there are enough RR coaches.

Even without the roadworks on the M4 I would strongly recommend going A303 and M3 (not M4 / M5) to get from from Plymouth to SW London.

There was some really good advice from a Stamford Bridge regular on one of the other threads. He parks for free near Southfields Tube (on Sutherland Grove) then gets the District Line Tube to Fulham Broadway (20 minutes from Southfields to the ground) - much quicker and cheaper than driving the last few miles.

To get to Southfields, the route is A38 / A30 / A303 / M3 / M25 / A3

The A303 and M3, is that going off M5 towards Andover and straight through Andover, then M3 and A3?
I'm staying in Wandsworth and travelling up later tomorrow, around 4pm.

Don’t go anywhere near the M4 / Bristol. Come off the M5 just after Exeter and take the A30 then A303 all the way to the M3.
I live in Wandsworth and haven’t used the M5 / M4 route for 15 years.

Looks like the a38 up to Exeter is currently closed (assuming for an accident). Worth checking in the morning if it’s open before leaving. Hope it’s not serious and no Argyle fans involved.

Cancel that, looks like road works until 6am.
