Incredible achievement on an absolute shoestring. Looked at their transfers...frees, unattached, unknowns and old timers. Administration and non league not that long ago.
Next time someone says 'its too early for Argyle to compete at championship level....we almost went out of existence remember' I'll just say two words: Luton. Town.

In all fairness Stoke was the wrong job to take, Jones took over a toxic dressing room full of big earners who didn’t want to be there. He should have never gone.

Had a whatsapp chat with a,Luton pal who was at the game. He said they have had 9 players out injured for spells and that they have used 6 goalkeepers with even 2 loanees getting injured soon after signing.
Their manager gambled playing 5 not fully fit players today. He felt their season was very similar to our's, both punching above our weight, them more so than us but they just managed to hold on.
He bemoaned the fact Forest could go up thanks to 4 highly paid loanees who won't be with them next season anyway.
He doesn't fancy their chances at all in the play offs and fears another hammering like Fulham gave them last week.

The point I was trying to make was not related to how Argyle would have fared in the playoffs, but that, if we did go up to the championship, we wouldn't necessarily be a whipping boy as loads of people like to say. Luton have proven you can compete with a savvy manager and canny transfer dealings ergo no reason why we wouldn't be able to.

Nothing wrong with looking positive…unfortunately every 1 team that does well…3-4 will struggle and go back down in 2 years.
I would still be happy with that though

Don’t forget that Luton are far more likely to be able to recruit the players they want due to their geographical location than Argyle.

Luton currently have Robert Snodgrass, Henri Lansbury & Cameron Jerome in their ranks- so they are able to attract players with previous premiership pedigree

This is always the advantage clubs in the London area, have or those in the Midlands, North and North West. Players coming to the end of their career or youngsters up for a loan will invariably choose to go where they don't need to uproot.
Luton and Blackpool have shown it can be done and being well run and by being "smart" there is no reason we couldn't compete but salaries have gone up even since our last spell plus the number of multi millionaire and billionaire owners has increased too.

And some people think location isn’t an issue for Argyle!

Perhaps location is an issue but no matter how much fans bleat about it this will never change. We are where we are and proud of it. Strange how the current players love playing for Argyle despite living in the back of beyond!
I agree with you entirely - and it’s absolutely critical that location is an issue that cannot easily be overcome since this means you either accept it and stop trying or you look to maximise the benefits it brings. It’s the same for other organisations and not just Argyle, for example surveys continually show that location is by far the biggest negative factor as far as student recruitment at the university is concerned.

Biggest positive factor being nightlife and bars?
