Houghton is just nowhere near the level that is now required. I find that sad, because he’s been such a good servant, but it’s true. Much like Dan Scarr, I’d like to see him get a good move to a L1 club.

The pecking order IMO is:
1. Randell
2. Forshaw
3. Gyabi
4. Houghton

Like Scarr move to a L1 club and then not get picked?

We have to be pragmatic when it comes to a few players, Houghton being one, and realise they are not up to this level.

He’s done well for us in past seasons but he’s not good enough.

Yep sure the over rated because he is one of our own will be rolled out by some ,BG, but Rands has been outstanding for us season on season improving. I give some credit to Forshaw there too Rands has moved up a level since he joined and AF was a player who achieved more than his skill level IMHO and AR is a player who listens and absorbs from the feedback I have got from guys in the youth set up. That said Houghton worked hard tonight.

Houghton may not be a championship level player, but his performance tonight was better than anything Forshaw has shown this season. I think he did alright for a player who hasn’t played many minutes.

Forshaw was better against Preston than Houghton was tonight.

Forshaw’s legs are going but he does at least look to take care of the ball and he looks to get us playing on the front foot.

I don’t think we have quite appreciated what we have in Randell until he is missing. He is the heartbeat of the team.

Would prefer to focus on how good Randell is than any shortcomings of Houghton, who compared to many in the last few games, did ok in the most difficult role in the team.

The only pecking Forshaw does is when he commits a fowl

I think Gyabi is more of a CAM. He was excellent at Middlesbrough when he was given more freedom. I don’t think he has a positional discipline to play as a CM.

Gyabi is not a CAM. He has no attacking sense at all.

I said it weeks ago, he offers nothing on the ball unless he has space to drive into on transitions. 13/18 passes tonight. For a no.8. That’s just not enough involvement.

Forshaw was stupid at QPR. But overall I think he’s done well for us, he’s a tidy and a classy player, his pedigree shows. I’ve been told by first team players just how good he is in the dressing room and on the training ground. I recognise that I’m probably in a minority.
