Not the first time it wasn't.I think it was Mike Trebilcock.
You sure you don’t mean George Robertson John? I know George worked as groundsman there. Maybe John did too?
RIP John. Could do with more like you today.
Yep Johnny Williams had one helluva shot on him didn’t he? Often from about 30 yards out!Yep - you are absolutely right - I got mixed up! However I remember George and John together at some Plymouth College event.
And then there was Johnny Williams……..
Great memories
I occasionally went to see Hereford during his managerial years as some school mates were Bulls fans. His passing will be met with a lot of sadness. As a Hereford based Green would just like to add that Johnny was a much revered character in football circles here too. He played his early football for Hereford lads club with a good friend of mine who remembers him well. He also managed Hereford in the 80s. Hereford Times featuring his death prominently RIP
So was Jumbo Chisholm old, though he was. What a brilliant player Johnny was for the Greens, he was the king of the sliding tackle. RIP LEGEND
In fact it was Wilf Carter who took the pen and Johnny Newman who scored. Match report and good description here: https://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-match.asp?date=1961-2-6I think it was Wilf carter!
Ok - thanks Steve. Should have read this first! Still, I was on the money with the 1964 example! In fact it was Wilf Carter who took the pen and Johnny Newman who scored. Match report and good description here: https://www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-match.asp?date=1961-2-6
It was Johnny Newman who touched the penalty sideways for Mike Trebilcock to score against Man City in 1964 (I was there!) but I believe there was an earlier case of the same tactic when Wilf Carter was the scorer. You
