Italy fail to qualify AGAIN

I watched it. Italy were under the cosh from the moment Bastoni got sent off.
But for a long time it looked like they would hang on to 1-0. Bosnia's finishing was atrocious, they had something like 30 shots, hardly any of which troubled Donnarumma.
But they finally got the goal and deservedly won the game. Their penalties were very good, Italy's were woeful.
Katic played the whole 120 minutes and looked very assured. He probably had more touches than anyone else.
I'm guessing there was no VAR. Not that I'm for it but, had there been, the Bosnian goal may have been disallowed, they would probably have also been reduced to 10 in extra time and Italy probably would have had a penalty for handball.
But there you go. John is right, the WC is not the same without Italy. But I do get to rib all my Italian friends here (at least until the competition starts and England fail again)! 😂

Is it the second time in a row? I wonder why they produce so little talent these days. In the 90's they had Maldini, Baggio, Del Piero, Vieri, Inzaghi. Later came Totti and Pirlo. Exciting players. The defenders were always top notch, too. Maldini, Cannavaro. The last 10+ years has been a bit of a wasteland.

Third time!!
During the days of Maldini, etc. they had rules limiting the number of foreign players. Bosman changed all that.
They (the clubs) earn far less than their English counterparts from TV and sponsorship and a lot of the grounds and facilities are in a state of disrepair.
Not sure what the solution is, but they are certainly not the powerhouse they were.

Still annoys me. The final was such a winnable game but it was too big of an occasion for Southgate.

Italy haven’t played in a World Cup knockout match since 2007.
To he fair, Italy were excellent in that comp.

They had a good tournament but the final was there for us to win. Home Turf. A raucous Wembley. 1 nil up after a few minutes. Italy looked rattled but then we inexplicably sat back and allowed them into the game.

Agree with that.

Sorry for any Argyle fans with Italian links but I'm still laughing inside that the footballing superpower Italy fail again. I also warm to the 'crazy gang' ness of the Bosnians with Katic at the heart of it as their captain.

On another note, Sweden have qualified for the world cup despite finishing bottom of their qualifying group and not winning a game in qualifying - perks of the nations league!
