Has Something Changed?

I recognise and understand the need for ads but in the last week or two something seems to have changed. I have seen:

- Most annoying - a lot of delays in links working, i.e. clicking on a forum or post, generally moving around the site - or even just scrolling making the site seem ‘jumpy’. My guess this is because the page is waiting for ads to load.
- also had the old ‘ghost link’ problem once or twice that send you to a different site when you click on a page number or thread.
- an ad box that keeps popping up adjacent to the keyboard while typing. It moves with the scroll so you can’t move it unless you click the very small x that inevitably sends you to the site.
- generally more intrusive ads affecting the experience. It used to be quite clean on iPad but is now more like my iPhone experience which is very ‘noisy’.

I know Apple had some issues with keyboard in a recent update so that may be contributing, but my experience has changed recently - especially on iPad, the jumpiness and slow/no response are the worst.

Not sure if I’m alone.

Thanks IJN. There is no doubt they’ve become busier on iPad for me with some oddities even as I type this. A running commentary …

As I wrote the word ‘become’ above I had got to ‘becom’. The word then disappeared and I was left with the letter ‘e’. This was just as a banner ad appeared above the keyboard so I suspect they’re chewing the memory.

In fact, writing this whole post has been jittery. That ad disappeared replaced by another one dancing left and right above the keyboard, and now over it so I can’t see what I’m typing, so I have to scroll up.

And now the post has actually disappeared as a new ad loaded (for David Lloyd) dancing above the keyboard. Refreshing brings the post back.

The difference seems to be that the ads are dynamic (changing constantly) rather than loading statically as they used to. The David Lloyd one even has a countdown timer before it switches. It’s now gone to HBO Max. Oh and now it’s gone to ‘fiverr’ and now I’m back to David Lloyd. I’m no expert but it definitely seems like memory hogging to me.

I use to get this on iPhone but a week or two ago the same behaviour started on my previously stable iPad.

I’m finding it hard to use.

Note that I’m not ruling out an Apple upgrade changing settings in the background, but equally I am seeing no changes in behaviour on other sites I use.

Hi, maybe linked to the above, maybe not, but I have noticed on many occasions over the last few weeks that a word(s) is missing from people's posts, often mid sentence. Possibly more examples of Frank's "become" example where they have been typed but disappear.

I’ve no problem with adverts on pasoti, they obviously bring in revenue to keep this brilliant site going and are easy enough to ignore.
However, in the last few days I’ve started getting adverts ‘floating’ right across the middle of my iPhone screen, over the top of the pasoti text. They move up and down and when I close them, another one appears in it’s place, it’s far too intrusive and extremely annoying, it’s caused me to close the app more than once, this can’t be good for pasoti.
I’m surprised nobody else has mentioned this - unless, of course, I am the only one!
Is anyone else getting this?
Can they be stopped?

Thanks Adam. Problem is these are changing dynamically, sometimes in seconds - as well as moving.

Had a go at this Adam because I’ve been getting reloads and lost text this evening. The icon you mention doesn't exist on some of these ads. There was an info button on the Luton Airport one though which is very annoying - says it’s ads by GumGum which are non-intrusive …. Ahem. Grabs my speakers and replays constantly. The banner ads at the bottom sometimes don’t load properly but I can see an opaque window behind the keyboard so they’re trying to load. I suspect they are the ones creating an exception error and causing page reloads.

Sorry, I’m not trying to be awkward but it is affecting the experience to the extent I’ve just given up a couple of times today.

I managed to get this once. Other times I have clicked but on a mobile phone I must have missed and ended up on the offending website - which probably means I will see the bleddy things more often.
