I was chatting online with a United-supporting mate of mine during the game - I said that maybe they need to be relegated a la 73/74 season so they can have a complete purge and rebuilding programme (and, let's face it, they only finished a few places above the relegation zone last season, so that's not beyond the realms of possibility). He was worried as to who could replace Amorin if/when he is given the boot - big Ange is obviously available, but then he guided Spurs to, er, 17th place in the Premier League last season...

Probably trumps our Liverpool win to be honest, although as it is the league cup played on a Wednesday night will not get the global coverage we got.

Shock! Horror! Not one, not even two but three Man Utd forwards costing a total of 200 million quid missed penalties in the shoot out last night!

Throws Jacobs' theory about who should take penalties into a cocked hat!

That manager is a fraud. Totally useless.

Well done Grimbo, they really deserved that.

Wonder if they will get a fine for the pitch invasion

A proper old school cup upset, and thoroughly deserved.

Grimsby's opening goal was sublime - real determination in winning the ball in midfield, a quick break, a pinpoint cross, brilliant first touch and a very cool finish.

Did anyone else hear the interview with the 96 year old Grimsby ST holder before the game? He was at the game the last time they played Man Utd in the late 1940s!

Loved it!

Grimsby completely out battled United and deserved the win.

Until United get a goal keeper who the defence can trust they will continue to struggle. Onana is the worst keeper I’ve ever seen and I include all of the keepers that have been slated at argyle. Both goals his fault and should have saved at least 4 of the penalties having got to them.

I thought United only missed 2 penalties?

It was a weird penalty shoot out as both sides kept scoring in identical ways - shooting low to the right while the keeper dived left.

A proper cup tie
Lower league won
peeing down with rain
Old school stadium
Pitch invasion
2nd grimsby goal would have been czncelled by VAR, however the other two disallowed goals may have stood.

Man U have serious issues....imagine if argyle spent hundreds of millions and play that way......

Huge problems for them......not that im concerned, makes me laugh. Tbh.

Interesting times

With man United's plight and Glasgiw Rangers ( Russell martin) losing 9-1 on aggregate to club brugge ....is there a changing of the guard in the game ? Away from a possession based game, and towards a more pragmatic style ??

He’s just inexplicably bad isn’t he? I mean, there’s being “bad” when you just aren’t good enough for a top club, but I think Onana would struggle in League One. His shot stopping, his decision making, he’s just really quite rubbish, which is remarkable given he was signed for 45 million pounds.

Dare I say it I quite like Russell Martin, he talks really well and wants to play an attractive style of football, but his spell at Rangers to date has been a disaster.

No wins in first 3 SPL games and Club Brugge battered them. The signings have been really poor. Max Aarons is a shadow of the player he was with Norwich. One of their strikers Igamane was on the bench, and refused to come on, saying he was injured. He’s now leaving and joining Lille.

If Celtic batter them on Sunday at Ibrox I think he could be sacked already.
