Just doing a bit of research and I came across the 'Great Britons' series that the BBC made in 2002.
It strived to name the greatest Briton of all time, Winston Churchill just pipping Brunel to the title.
But it shows how unreliable it is to get the public to vote on anything.
For example, Sir Francis Drake came 49th (way way to low imo) and, amazingly, he finished below the likes of Boy George (46), McCartney (19), Thatcher (16), Lennon (8) and Diana, Princess (3).
I remember enjoying the series (and also getting annoyed in equal measure) at the time.
