Have already signed Pattison - is a Godden /May striker available?
This is question I would like to ask all those demanding a "proven goalscorer". Who is out there that is possible and not past it? Genuine question, I haven't looked into it.

On a free - Nahki Wells , Michael Smith ( Sweds)

I you are looking for an experienced scorer who has 1 year left on his deal and may be available then the list is a little longer .

'Past it' is an interesting one in view of jamie vardy and christian ronaldo ...I think that this might be subject to re- definition at this time

I would have said jake tabor ( showing maybe, that you dont need to pay a fortune to get a good striker- but only good scouts) - in view of ian holloways recent presser claiming he had ' the most impressive trial hed ever seen' - which presumably includes barry hayles also

My picks would be rumarn burrell at CF , by a long distance, as well as ronan hale at ross county, a different type altogether. But are they available and in budget ?

Malik wilkes has been mentioned previously, currently a free agent- with his versatility an attraction, perhaps in behind

I dont think daniel udoh of wycombe ( formerly shrewsbury ) has. Certainly ' broad shoulders'- as per cleverly requirement- a bit of a wrecking ball- would cause havoc...goal output passable, but not brilliant. Would wycombe sell, and 28 yo. Is that 'past it' or at his peak ??

Theres also that kevin geezer, with the really long name, almost 3 yards tall ( slight exaggeration there 😉) who was mentioned earlier

Theres also the possibility of someone unknown from abroad

All based on complete guesswork, with no insider info.....

Edit: I would also start from the basis of looking for somebody who has scored a lot of goals- when trying to identify somebody who would be likely to score a lot of goals in an Argyle shirt ( a novel approach for Argyle?- but it did seem to work well in our past- dwight marshall, tommy tynan) I mentioned ollie pearce. McCauley langstaff Nakhi wells earlier - who have done just that

It's still not a very inspiring list though. I wouldn't be surprised to see Devante Cole end up here. Man Utd connection and all that. I doubt he would be our first choice though.

If Ipswich get the strikers they are after then there is a good chance, they will loan or even sell Ali Al-Hamadi. If we are looking for a younger option then he could be a possibility.

I think when the word “ proven scorer” is used then thought needs to be given as to what that means and at what level . League 1 and above ? It needs to be somebody who is up to leading the attack and with more experience than our current forwards . Below is the league 1 list of forwards whose contracts expire next season :

Just by way of comparison, Orient have just signed Aaron Connelly on a 2 year deal.

Really?
I thought we wanted an experienced pro, double figures in the Championship last year (which considering the bleating we've heard about Hardie leaving) shows he still has something to offer. He's a real athlete, 3/4 years younger than Vardy, I'd be stunned if he couldn't do a job for a season or two whilst we develop Pebble and OO

Absolutely. If signing Wells is even a remote possibility then we should move heaven and earth to make that happen.

To be honest, I'm not fussed about goals scored. Yes, a record of some goals is useful but I don't think we need someone that has scored 20 for 3 or 4 years in a row. We need someone that will get 10-15 but can be the focal point in the team. Hold the ball up, run the channels and work hard starting the press from the front when needed.

So, while I see the value of a Wells or Smith or AN Other 30something, my only worry (with no evidence) is are they mobile enough? Will they get about the pitch, week in, week out leading the line on their own? I think I'd rather see someone mid-20's with a couple hundred games behind them, even if their scoring record is more 1 in 4 then 1 in 2.5 or 3.

I just remember how Hardie burnt himself out at the end of the L1 winning season and the first Championship season playing as a lone 9. So the thought of someone 33, 34, 35 playing that role and still going strong come March, April next year is a concern.

Agreed - they didn’t loan him to Stoke until Jan and he didn’t rip up trees for them . League 1 might be his limit at the moment- not sure what Championship teams would take him .

It is stoke they've Had Ennis and Cundall and not been able to get anything out of them even ruined Lowe after Walsalls hard work so no disrespect it's hardly a surprise he didn't make it there
