I played for a team in the late sixties early seventies- - Moorhaven Hospital SC ,for a short while Eric Burgess coached us one evening a week he gifted a set of shirts/shorts (used I may add ) in the very nice green and black stripes .our first team were a force to be reckoned with back then although I only managed one or two games and spent all my time in the second 11 (we were not such a force !)

Plymouth City, I forgot all about them. If I remember they had Grand ideas in the day, was it the early 70s? They got together a team of local non league all stars and a couple of ex pros if I remember and played at Pennycross possibly? All a bit hazy but I don't think they lasted more than a few seasons.
Edit: just googled it and Plymouth City had just the one season in the Western league 1970/71 before disbanding.

I had a good friend who played a couple of trial games in goal for Plymouth City , I went with him and to me it seemed quite a professional set up but we were only 16 or 17 so easily impressed

Not a really a claim to fame but…..

When I was younger my Dad was part of the Vice Presidents Club. They often had their meetings at the Argyle Hotel by the train station.

I used to go with him, but as I wasn’t allowed in the meetings I had to stay in the Living Room and watched Sky Sports (which was great because we didn’t have it at home).

Some of the players were housed in the hotel and quite often they would come down to say hello, but I have to say, Barrington Belgrave was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He’d sit with me and we’d talk about football in general and he make me a drink etc.

My Dad used to referee Liskeard at Lux Park when I was young I used to go and sit in the stands, Bradley Swiggs was playing for Liskeard. He still bangs on about him handing out a yellow card to an Argyle player after Swiggs played 4 games for Argyle in 1984

Paul Mariner lived in Carlton Close in Lower Compton and I often saw him in the fish and chip shop on Priory Road (now Wongs). I was about 7 - I wasn’t a stalker.

I was also taught Latin at school by Bessie's dad and I was in the year below Jon - I knew him a bit. I played football for Mayflower under 12s / 13s (I think, long time ago!) and Terry Sweeney was in our side.
A few decades on, I played 5-a-side at Goals and Darren Tallon regularly played and Danis Salman. (Also an ex-City player, Kirkup (I think!??)
James Dungey used to walk to Argyle past me when I was waiting at the bus stop for school (Peverell Corner, on Outland Road - I was surprised how short he was!)
I used to regularly see and sometimes talk to Argyle players when out in town during my 20s (Luke McCormick being a notable one)
Once saw Martin Barlow smoking in a pub, which threw me a bit, but he was playing for City at the time so I quickly shrugged it off.

I used to see Sam Shilton in Ritzy occasionally when I was out clubbing during my sixth form days. Given he was celebrated as breaking into the Argyle first team at the age of 16, the door staff clearly weren't doing a great job on enforcing the 18+ door policy (Yes, I'm aware I was breaking it too!)

Three for me once in a lift with Rambo as a young awestruck kid didn't say a word.
Then at Capn Jaspers when Hasney and Steve Adams were down there me in my Argyle shirt never said a thing as they were on there day off then I worked doing DFS stores up when Gary Clayton turned up as a plasterer I was always getting rubbed for being Argyle and Clayts came in and put them straight massive club with proper fans he said ! Loved it at Argyle mind they also ribbed him as being no good ! I reminded them of his screamer at Bury that got Warnock's team going good times !

I was a ball boy for three seasons until the 66/67 season. See page 154 of Russell Moore's home park history. In September 66 the football league played the Irish league featuring most of the world cup team. The world cup was paraded around the ground before the match and before we ran out in front of over 40,000, each of the eight of us was allowed to hold the world cup, happy memories indeed.
