Bit surprised at Harry Maguires family being so vitriolic on his exclusion from the squad - if he wasn’t popular with Tuchel before he certainly won’t be now !!

Think Maguire's reaction demonstrates pretty clearly exactly why he wasn't included. Selfish deluded git.
No way he is anywhere near "one of the best in the world", not sure what he was drinking when he wrote that.

I like that Tuchel has stuck to his guns and picked on form and ability to play in a team, rather than on reputation and ego (with the exception of Bellingham maybe, whose ego could fill a stadium, but you can't really leave him out, maybe he can still learn to play a team game).

Loads of comments on here and elsewhere about "how could he pick X / leave out Y". The reality is that we don't have 25 players who are head and shoulders above the rest and pick themselves. We have probably 40 players of similar standard, with a few exceptions, and you could pick a squad with pretty much any combination and get similar strength.

And frankly I don't care if the football is turgid, if we win every game 1-0, that will do.

Otto Rehhagel won the Euros with Greece.
A team based on ethic and organisation.
A German manager with a similar philosophy.
🤞🏆😁

Hands up those that have studied the, selected, players all season, know their characters, all round anttributes and ethic?
Thought not!
This selection has an air of Alf Ramsey about it IMO. He was criticised with some of the selections at the time.
Tuchel will be judged post tournament.
I’m all for it.
Surprised that Toney is selected but I’d forgotten he was even still playing!! 😉
I have never forgotten Ivan Toney despite him chasing off to the Middle East chasing the big bucks. Physically, he can rattle CBs with his size and speed. He can compete in the air probably as well as Harry Kane and better than Watkins.
Should Kane get injured or substituted I would want nobody better than Toney to put away penalties with aplomb.
He continues to know how to score from his recent record in the M E and he could be an inspired inclusion. Good Luck Ivan.

Would have liked to see Hall over Spence, and Wharton over Henderson.
Disappointed that Gibbs-White didn't make it; he's been red-hot.
No problem at all with Foden and Palmer being left out; they've shown
very little this season, and shouldn't be selected on past performance.

Don't agree there. The Phil Foden for Man City is nothing like the Phil Foden for England. He's had 49 caps to prove himself and never has done so.
Then maybe England is the problem?

If you have the very best ingredients and end up with a crap meal then have a look at the chef and his menu rather than saying "this ingredient is the problem because it can never taste the same in this kitchen".
(Don't you just love a tortured analogy? ;))

I like it. I don't follow the prem much, so there's a few names I'm not familiar with, but good to see O'Reilly and Quansah (assuming it's the same player?) when the former destroyed us in the cup while the latter well and truly didn't. They could have ended up as loanees to Championship clubs instead of playing on the biggest stage in football so good to say (in the words of Dave Banana) "I saw them play".

Madueke is awful. Quansah got torn apart by Niall Ennis at HP about 3 years ago. Henderson should have gone as a mascot not a player. Taking one natural LB with one season of senior football is madness.

We have nobody that offers what Wharton brings. Palmer is a big game player and a great penalty taker. Lewis Hall should be in.
I agree about Wharton. Put him with better players than at Palace and he'd be an outstanding addition.

I don’t think Madueke is awful, but not sure what he adds in a squad. I would have had Bowen, not a starter, but if needing a goal in the last 20 he is more likely to create it. He was also a pretty successful stop gap number 9 for a season.
It's Madueke's unpredictability that makes him very dangerous.

How Calvert- Lewin didn't get in I'll never know
I guess it's to try and win the World Cup (Highly unlikely though it is). Calvert-Lewin arguably offers more for his 'Bold fashion choices', which aren't likely to get England a win over Spain (or whoever) in a World Cup quarter final.

The climate makes the Ivan Toney selection understandable. Albeit against poorer opposition, he has been scoring goals in thirty degree heat and above. The temperatures at games are going to have a big say.
And the lack of any other reliable goalscorer and target man, apart from Kane.

If we win it, I want us to do it in style by making the most of our attacking players, rather than the negative Southgate way.
