It is the stereotyped, North v South thing. I was in the Hull Cheese (it is, or at least was a pub in Hull City Centre) before a Hull v Argyle game many moons ago and was called a 'Shandy Swilling Southern F*****t' by a Hull fan. Obviously he was offended by my pre-match tipple of Tia Maria and Babycham.
Brave man Bigalf! The Hull Cheese isn’t known for it’s love of southern softies (if you are one!) but many good times had there as a student back in the day….

I had actually just informed the Local Neanderthals that the only reason they could drink 10 pints before going home to beat oop t'wife was because northern ale is 45% froth therefore 10 pints in the grim North is only equivalent to 5 1/2 southern pints. I was asked to leave shortly afterwards for some reason!! Stayed in a Hotel called the 'Stop Inn' which we realised was advice rather than its name. However, took our lives in our hands and spent the evening in the Minerva which I knew from my days in the Navy. Far more convivial atmosphere.

Perhaps we should start insulting opposition fans with monster unique per game flags the way Italians do. When Verona play Naples they hold up a flag Yes
Yes, if we got Newcastle in the cup we could have a huge flag saying: 'Your owner's country of birth has an awful civil liberties record. Or even chant at Exeter (if they ever get promoted): ' We're getting a Freeport, we're getting a Freeport, you're not, you're not.

I’m a fan of footie too.
Yes, but do you use it with regularity?

Not sure if he was referring to athletes foot cream or one of those embarrassing creams. You know, the ones where you quietly ask the pharmacy assistant for it and she, sorry it usually is a she, shouts Brenda can you get me a tube of Anusol for this gent please.

Could also be viagra I guess 😀

Yes I do use the term "footy or footie" regularly. Always have done. I guess for those of us who are old enough to remember, it probably comes from the table football game "Newfooty" which was the precursor to Subbuteo.

Perhaps Northern types have an aversion to it.

Joking apart, it could be a geographical difference.
