So now people can go shopping, off to the cinema or pop into a restaurant.
Closure should be across the board as a proper way to show respect.
Talking to our Vicar earlier, she has been told to carry on with all services including Christenings, Weddings, and Funerals but with more subdued services as these, especially weddings, have been organised well in advance. Meanwhile we have followed protocol and cancelled all Council meetings until after the 25th. Some local events have already been cancelled, some are going ahead. It is right that organisers of any event make their own decisions.

Who is expected to pay for this closure, pay for a day off to allow for people to show respect, then another day off when the funeral takes place and another day off when the King is crowned ... easy to say close the country down but how are small business going to pay for it ... Why not close the power stations, police force , hospitals as well...

By the way, what is the proper way to show respect?

It's a really tough one. In the present economic climate and with memory of Covid lockdowns fresh in the mind, it seems pretty unpalatable to close anything down for both businesses and general public.

Maybe sport is different, as it has such a high national and international symbolism in a way that individual people popping to the pub or shops doesn't.

If the nation was going to come to an actual standstill in mourning then I’d understand there being no football this weekend, but it is somewhat absurd that literally everything else (Theatres, pubs, restaurants, zoos, theme parks etc) will be open but football grounds won’t be.
Apparently watching a footballer is less respectful than watching a lion, watching a sci fi film and scoffing popcorn or indeed playing bingo

I agree with the money side, after covid lockdowns I think thats the way they will go.

Also just been told tickets to the service at St Paul's are on sale for the 1st 2000. A bit cheeky if true!
False there is a memorial service with 2000 tickets for the public. Wrist bands are being given out this morning on a first come basis
