Who would you prefer at LWB, a fit Cooper or Laws, personally its a no brainer, Laws without a doubt. I fail to see what Cooper brings to the team, In our promotion year he did okay with his crossing ability although prior to his injury last season he did not bring a lot, his tackling is terrible, his tracking back is equally as bad. Laws as all the attributes and given time he will develop into a very good player at our level.

Did okay? If being in the top three for assists despite playing about 15 games fewer than the other leading assist providers is "doing okay" then maybe you should drop him a line offering him some crossing tips.

And we conceded fewer goals per game with GC in the team last season than without him, so maybe it's a Pasoti myth that he can't defend. He also scored one goal and laid on two assists before his injury last season - I'm not sure what more you want from him.

Ryan Law has promise but is not League One standard yet - as the game against Sunderland proved when he was beaten too easily several times.

I agree Ryan Law has a lot of promise but a lot to learn, George Cooper provides so much more than people think.

Maybe play one of them at home but both struggle defensively and I think we need to be more solid away. Galloway or Grant seem a better bet defending.

The only time I've seen Ryan Law in a competitive fixture is when the team had given up at the end of last season. It's impossible for me to compare them.

Part of me would still like for Argyle to play an England style 3-4-3 with Mayor and Cooper on the flanks cutting in.

My thoughts exactly. He 'did OK' apparently, whilst being nearly top of the assists column playing an unfamiliar position and with a dozen fewer starts than the other wingers and attacking midfielders on there.

Cooper isn't a defender nor a LWB IMHO.
He needs to be further up field where he can do more damage to oppo teams.
Its similar to the carey and Lameiras dilemma of how you get Cooper and Mayor in same team.

Law isn't ready IMHO so I would go with Grant at LWB personally and change to 4-4-2 to accommodate Cooper when fit

Would be madness to play Cooper at LWB especially as league two wide players caused him no end of issues defensively.

It will start off with C Grant l feel. l just think in a wing back system you need top players to play a specialist role and here is Argyle playing two midfielders they converted.

I do not think Cooper is good enough for league1, prior to his injury he was not a guaranteed starter, he is not a team player and will often not be part of the game. I find it amusing when people bang on about the number of assist a player gets, whoever plays the final ball providing a goal is scored is awarded an assist, what a load of rubbish, what about the player who started the move and the next player etc etc. When we had great strikers who could head the ball a corner taker would be awarded an assist every time the attacker scored which is how Cooper got the amount of assist he did, I judge a player on his overall contribution which is where Cooper is found wanting. Law will progress a lot playing alongside the likes of Galloway and the player signed from Australia both of whom bring a lot to the team.

You described Cooper's crossing ability as "okay"; you can't then moan when someone provides evidence to counter that.

It's also a bit odd to downplay assists as a metric of quality. Yes, football is a team game and goals are therefore team efforts, but if the final ball wasn't important then you and me would be playing professional football.

And yes, corner takers are awarded assists if a striker nods the corner in. The corner has to be good enough to give the striker the opportunity to score in a tight area packed full of opposition players. Otherwise teams would just give corners to any old player rather than their best crosser.
