Cleverley certainly comes across well and I really hope that along with his backroom staff we can have a period of stability. It is not going to be as easy as some are making out but if we can attract some quality players who knows🤞🏻
Quality being the major factor, hopefully that will be the case no more gambles , think we have recently signed a few , bench warmers , maybe players, let’s hit the ground running with good signings it’s not going to be easy this season as some may think imo ,

Quite true it is far from a given we can bounce back immediately and it won't be easy.

But compared to the last time we were in L1, I'd argue it was a stronger league then and with a budget that was apparently barely the average that 101 point season was quite astonishing. In fact, the more I think about it, it was perhaps the most impressive league season we've EVER had - certainly it must be right up there. As a reminder, these were the teams we finished above - when the likes of Derby & Pompey can't even make the top six you know it's a bleddy strong League 1 (or third division in old money).

Could well have been a once in a lifetime season that one, will be very very hard to top.
I'd argue that we finished that season with a stronger team than the one we've just finished the Championship with.

oh easily. the team that won league one would easily beat the team we had last season.

In fact I reckon

Plymouth Argyle (22/23) 4 v 1 Plymouth Argyle (24/25)
Scarr '15
Hardie '22
Mumba '48
Ennis '84

Bundu scoring in the 66th minute for the 24/25 team

Unfortunately, the team that won the championship werent built well from the back.

All the issues that got us relegated were issues you could identify with before.

If you go as far back as the season before we got promoted and looked at our away results the pattern was we would never play well against the top 6.

The year we won the championship our away results were better against that top 6. Bolton 0--0. Ipswich 1-1. The difference was our home form was outstanding and we had four decent, different style of forwards that Schumacher could rotate around the 60min mark.

However. the side didn't have a strong backbone. 3-0 Barnsley. 4-0 to Bolton in EFL trophy final along with many iffy away performances where we were crap but won eg Shrewsbury and Exeter.

Those crap, but winning away results showed the team having signs of character which maybe had been slowly ebbed away as results declined over the past two seasons.

We saw many great individual and team goals but the ability to pass and keep possession well was often lacking from that Championship winning team.

The reason we got relegated, in my opinion, is we tried to play out from the back in a much tougher league. We also tried to play possession football with a midfield not good enough to consistently keep the ball.

That Championship winning side had many of the players that were our downfall to relegation. Mumba for example constantly gave the ball away whilst playing wing back/full back in bad areas.

We neglected our areas of weaknesses and compounded them by playing a style of football we couldn't pull off in a higher league.
