1979 was I think the best year ever for music (certainly in my lifetime) Punk had morphed into new wave but some great pop too

1979 gave us The Cure - Boys don’t cry and a fine chapter in Debbie Harry’s appearance

Fun fact - Blondie are the only American band* (so far) to have a number one UK single in three different decades, 70s, 80s and 90s.
*they did have one English member.

Several solo USA artists have also done it.

Japan, "Ghosts".Fantastic, played it via YouTube last night funny enough. And I, m an ex "hairy" from the seventies, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc. Eighties far more subtle music genres. No drum or guitar solos to drop off to!!!.

Japan were superb as was the bulk of David Sylvian’s solo work. He seems to have become something of a recluse these days. His brother still plays and I highly recommend the song In The Game by his band, Exit North
