Exactly this. If he scores 3, 4, 5 goals from Exeter, Stockport, Wycombe, even Bradford, we will be fighting off offers in the last week of August. If he draws a blank, clubs probably look elsewhere.
At which point we should tell said clubs to jog on. No more key players should leave without having their replacement ready to sign on the dotted line and this process needs to have concluded by the first whistle of the season opener.

Any later sucks to be them.

If only it were that simple!

Have we made an offer? The only thing Cleverley has said, is that we have contacted a club regarding a player. Nothing to say we have made any offers.
Said player may have stuck 2 fingers up to Tom Cleverley. We dont know, & we don't anything for a reason, that's to stop speculation and the false expectations that brings with it. When it's time to be informed, we will.

Where's the fun in that? :)

And try to play a player who is demotivated enough he doesn't want to get out of bed! Thats what it would lead to.
This argument never holds weight with me, no motivation to "work" for x thousands a week?
If that is the case I suggest they take a hard look in the mirror and have a word.
A few hours a week training and a couple of hours "work" on a football pitch!

But it is! He's under contract, he's our assets, we can just keep him if it would be too late in the window and harm our chances of a successful season. Their emergency is not our problem.
I think players would like to be treated as human beings rather than an asset.

Income is relative. When you first receive an increase it is an incentive, but ceases to be so once it becomes the norm.

Wow. That is life changing sort of money. I can’t imagine he would have ever stayed here once he got a whiff of that.

I think it shows how much they wanted him. I do think they have a very good player on their hands. If they aren’t in and around it at the end of the season, I can see him moving on again. Top player in my opinion. We were blessed to have him here in green for a season.
