Nice to see that the Barn Owl Stand has had a lick of paint

You couldn't tell the difference between a Bristol City supporter and Horsham supporter? On a similar subject, I've recently downloaded the Merlin bird app (FoC)
I'm not a twitcher BUT it's amazingly simple and we all now use it when playing golf, when he hear a different sort of birdsong.
I can now tell a robin from a sparrow and I've been amazed how many different types of parakeet there are in and around our City and especially Elfordleigh.
Give it a go, become an anorak like me.

I'm definitely not a twitcher, but I've always enjoyed looking out for different birds. The moment that I installed Merlin on my phone about 3 years ago, kind of changed my life... The number of different species that I've seen has grown enormously (86 since I got the app, but I've not really paid any attention to water birds so I've probably seen quite a few more). I use the app to identify and locate birds when we are out on walks but I only log them if I actually get a clear enough sighting to be sure.On a similar subject, I've recently downloaded the Merlin bird app (FoC)

I used to always take birds for granted. However, given the current climate... I've changed my tune.Me & the brother used to do a bit of twitching in our yoouf.
Mainly when we got really bored tbh, but still.
Got to see loads of birds of prey & finches, woodpeckers & all sorts.
Near Kingsbridge & down towards Bantham, Thurlestone.
Is it me, or are there slightly less breeds about these days?
That Merlin app is brilliant.
Thanks … Yup … non toxic water based acrylic paint & only the exterior has been painted. Whether it’s wife safe is a different issue. It looks great, I just hope that the paint is bird friendly...
There's a heron that can frequently be seen beside the new ponds at the Barn Park entrance to Central Park. I love watching herons when we are out walking. I wrote a poem about an encounter we had with a heron in Yorkshire a few summers back: King Heron (poem).Use it all the time. Only yesterday when strolling around Belfast Lough. Grey Heron.
I wonder how much the milled wood was worth? We used to get visited by a Little Owl, it was lovely. A few times in the summer I would be sitting out the back garden and it would be on the guttering twooting away. Then Mr Treekilller bought the house next door and was allowed to chop down a two hundred year old-plus tree because it was near his house. I understand the basic point, it was huge and the roots could have created some serious damage, but I have not seen or heard that Owl since.![]()
Fantastic to watch in flight herons. We have many in our locality. I have a photo of about 8 herons all standing like statues, I'll see if I can find it!There's a heron that can frequently be seen beside the new ponds at the Barn Park entrance to Central Park. Thanks..yes very cat and magpie proof due to the size of the aperture and it now being outside about 7ft up. Also there’s no perch which will stop other predators sitting there looking in.Very impressive
Is it Cat& Magpie proof
