Just out of interest, at the time they were signed who would have been dictating we would be using a 4231? Granted Baidoo was already here (but wanting out) but I think Amaechi, Paterson and Watts all arrived pre-Tom Cleverley.

Pretty sure Amaechi was signed post Cleverley arriving. Regardless, I just think we’ve got a lot of attacking players suited to a 4231/433. Players like Watts and Amaechi would probably be starters for the vast majority of other League One clubs but they don’t really have a place in a 442, it’s unfortunate for them.

It was obviously an easy chance. Shame I thought. He did alright when he came on aside from that. Certainly not his fault we were awful before he came on. But let’s not pretend that wasn’t a glorious chance to prove you right about his ability
Exactly. Just because it goes against the grain of his overall Amaechi assessment. Centre of goal 10 yards out in front of defender. Ridiculous to say its not an easy chance irrespective of the rest of his cameo. That goes in as it should and we get at least a point to keep the run going. Pepple's 2nd miss almost as bad.

He made a big difference when he came on and all you can do is berate him for that.

It wasn't even an easy chance.

At least he made a fine run to get to the ball and get in front of the defender, although the defender managed got a bit of him as he did so, which I guess means he made amends.
Hilarious. It was the fantastic ball to put him through that made the chance that you give no credit for.

Admire how staunch you are in your support for Amaechi, but it wasn’t a difficult chance, he really should have scored or worked the GK at a minimum. Wonderful ball from Ibrahim, I’d be annoyed if I were him as it would have been some assist.

Both of Pepple's were even worse. First one a free header at an open goal. Second one a free run on goal with just the keeper to beat.

Although you couldn't have seen Curtis getting on the end of it . Great pass from Ibrahim who will get his chance v Orient , and disappointing finish from Amaechi having got there but he deserves more opportunities although possibly not v Orient .

True but the second one was wider and further out.
Fair. Wider certainly.
But was under no pressure at all, whereas Amaechi was being pulled back as he went to shoot (should still have scored though)

My old dad is 83. I showed him the Pepple miss and the Amaechi miss on my phone. I won’t repeat the actual words he used but the gist of it was that he felt they were both highly efficient pancake flippers and about as useful as female body parts on male bovine. I said “but Dad they’re good players they get paid thousands of pounds a week, they even practice this stuff all week” ….. make up the next bit yourself …. It wasn’t nice 🤣

I think I might have finally worked out why we miss so many chances, obviously the goals we use for training purposes are higher and wider than goals used in the league. That's obviously in order to give players the belief that they can actually" hit a barn door with a banjo!!"😂

All strikers miss chances.

It is the way of the world.

No one coverts all their chances - especially at League 1.

How many should Spain have had last night?

Pretty awful miss is the truth of it. I think in general though he is overly criticised. He's inconsistent and therefore can be frustrating, I understand that. But expecting consistency from someone who plays for half an hour every fortnight is a tough ask.

The 'real' capital of Devon
There's definitely a player in Amaechi and he has a wand of a left foot.

At the moment, he's far more effective coming off the bench as his work rate isn't anywhere near good enough to earn him a regular starting role in a 4-4-2.

His miss on Saturday was dreadful but out of character for him as he's usually a decent finisher. It looked from behind the goal like the defender had a little tug at him which caused him to lose his balance slightly and blaze it into row M or wherever instead of slotting it either side of the keeper.

If he can get a few match winning cameos from the bench under his belt he may then gain enough confidence and determination to be pushing for a start.
