The responsibility for that shrewd signing has to lay with Dickinson and Dewsnip.
I have to defend Rooney here. Rooney was appointed head coach but had to complete his tv stint before he actually arrived at the club, but there was no way that Rooney did not approve of the signing.

He was made head coach before the signing of Ogbeta, and I remember thinking that he was quick to get his first signing in before he arrived.

Ogbeta was chosen because of his attacking intent as a wingback, not his defending as a full back.

Maybe Rooney decided to change the club from a three at the back to a four at the back when he finally got here and saw the quality, or lack of, in the squad, and Ogbeta then became surplus to requirements, because he is not a defender.

Are you saying that Rooney actually wanted Ogbeta?

If so, you're not doing a very good job of defending him. Who would want to be responsible for him signing for Argyle.

I was giving Rooney the benefit of the doubt and putting the blame on our recruitment team, who apparently do lots of research and background work going back weeks and months on any potential new signings.

But perhaps you're right and Rooney is even more clueless than I thought.

Rooney may be a lot of things but clueless he isn’t.
Away from home is the problem he needs to address PDQ, sack Rooney if you like but we still have to deal with the current group of reserves, wonder who that could be ?

I cannot believe that Recruitment brought him in after Rooney arrived without his approval, and whether Rooney gave the go ahead, relying on recruitment to get him the best that the club could afford, or whether Rooney agreed after looking at his stats we will not know.

Recruitment have always said that they have four or five possibles for every position should circumstances dictate that a new player is required by management. Of course, the names of these players are very fluid because they may go elsewhere or suddenly go out of our price range and so recruitment is always active.

It has to be the fault, if indeed it was a fault, of either Rooney or recruitment, and as Ogbeta is not a Rooney regular, then perhaps you are right and recruitment f........ed up, he was free after all, and we were warned by his previous club supporters that he was fine going forward but was clueless defending.

We were told they had been tracking him for a long time. Beggars belief. Rooney had to trust the recruitment team on that.

Ultimately we are looking at the wrong type of player. Rather than hardened experienced pros who can win a tackle and a header we have been signing players who are SUPPOSED to buy into our attacking philosophy, Ogbeta being an example. Even Grimshaw I would argue. Very very good with his feet but can he command his area? Get the basics right first.
