Honestly don't think expansion would do a great deal to reduce L2 gates at all. Increased competition rarely leads to increased apathy.

If you're minded to go and watch a middling L2 side anyway, an Accrington, a Gillingham or a Fleetwood say... is it really any great difference playing a, say, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, York or Hartlepool when the 'cream' of L2 this year were Bromley, MKD, Cambridge and Salford?

Boreham Wood would be small but over the piece there really isn't a major difference in club sizes between the upper end of NL (thus those likely to be promoted) and L2.

Plus of course with 3UP there would be increased jeopardy in many more games towards the end of the L2 season, that only increases gates.
I was thinkinfg more in terms of league revenue than gates tbh

They haven’t got the detail right, but the principle is fine. Sort of. I think the issue is that overall quality drops, in that clubs relegated from L1 would play half their games against the equivalent of Torquay and Truro.

I see no issue with the geography. You dont have a physical divider, because that could lead to different size leagues. With regionalisation if there is a mismatch in this, it usually means the club in the south that is furthest north moves into the northern section (or vice versa).
This does mean than they could be switching regions each year. Mind you it helps if you are ticking off league grounds.

Agree that a North and a South split doesn't suit the geography - at least as far as Devon and Cornwall are concerned.

In rugby union the fourth tier (National League 2) is split into 3 regions - East, North & West.

Mind you Camborne and Chester were both in West this season.
