So that would be 6 relegated from League 1 each season? Seems a lot to me, that's a quarter of the whole division.

Yeah, that's a mistake but it does highlight an issue that has been around for a while in the National League North and South. The dividing line can be just north of London, this season the National League North contains Bedford Town, Oxford City and Merthyr Town. This somewhat defies the argument that regionalisation would lower travelling costs.

What the actual flip?

Utter broke nonsense 😉

I mean, how have Ebbsfleet and Maidenhead been promoted from NLS? What happened to Worthing, Hornchurch, Torquay, Dorking, Hemel Hempstead and Weston-Super-Mare, all of whom finished higher?

Suspect someone had been drinking while operating ChatGPT 🙄

Never going to change that, unless you brought in MORE regions 🫣

The physical geography of England simply doesn't match the distribution of football clubs within it.

You could go 2 or 3 with a North/South playoff final.

Not a daft idea in principal I would not split 2nd division though. National League split is not a bad idea, 2 promoted and a North/South playoff for the third spot.

Edit I would even go 4 promoted with 2 automatics and 2 playoffs North and South.

I saw that image too and thought it was an interesting idea. I'd be more in favour though of just bringing the Conference into the EFL as League 3. There's very little difference in standard I'd say between the bottom half of League 2 and the top half of the National League this season.

Exactly.

The clubs are just as professional as in L2, and just as used to travelling big distances to play matches. Doesn't need regionalising until tier six, as it is now.

Just adopt the National League proper into the EFL... with 3UP throughout 👌🏼

Regionalisation would reduce costs. Expansion of EFL would reduce income to lower league teams. The relEgation/promotion from Div 2 should be 4 IMHO,

Would have thought it would be 4 relegated from league 1.

Honestly don't think expansion would do a great deal to reduce L2 gates at all. Increased competition rarely leads to increased apathy.

If you're minded to go and watch a middling L2 side anyway, an Accrington, a Gillingham or a Fleetwood say... is it really any great difference playing a, say, Rochdale, Scunthorpe, York or Hartlepool when the 'cream' of L2 this year were Bromley, MKD, Cambridge and Salford?

Boreham Wood would be small but over the piece there really isn't a major difference in club sizes between the upper end of NL (thus those likely to be promoted) and L2.

Plus of course with 3UP there would be increased jeopardy in many more games towards the end of the L2 season, that only increases gates.
