We chucked wickets away in both innings. Simply don't deserve to win it.

Sadly we lack class, backbone and anyone with a cricketing brain. Root is a top drawer player, but a third rate skipper with too many players who aren't good enough.
Bairstow and Ali have had umpteen chances but never do it when it matters. Stokes hides so many holes in our team that we are exposed when he isn't around. We are lucky to still be in the series, let's hope Anderson can drag us back once again at his home ground.

Yep, the same for me. The team needs a better captain but who? Buttler maybe or Stokes when he returns.
Ali flatters to deceive, 30-odd when batting and one or two wickets when bowling isn't good enough.
India were just too good for us.

There is such a long list of what's wrong I wouldn't know what to address first.
Selection of players like Curran infuriates the hell out of me. He is nowhere near a good enough bowler at test level, but we pick him because he might chip in with 20 odd, because our batsman aren't good enough. A ridiculous philosophy. It should be the best wicketkeeper, your best 4 bowlers and your best 6 batters. If you are lucky enough to have Stokes/Woakes, clearly that frees you up to be more speculative. We don't pick Leach because we want a spinner who bats, flawed thinking for me.
Root doesn't think like a captain, he doesn't seem to know when to attack or defend in the field, which in English conditions and having Broad and Anderson for the majority of his tenure in a sad reflection on his limitations.
The past few weeks has made me quite fearful of a 5-0 this winter.

I agree that India were too good for us. Bumrah is a fantastic bowler if he is not a ‘chucker’. Fantastic deliveries to dismiss Pope and Bairstow but did he ‘chuck’ them?
I umpired in the Devon League and I am not sure what is a ‘chuck’ any more.

Ali also missed a vital run out in their 2nd innings and then wasted our last review with a stupid call. Supposed to be vice captain. Bring back Leach.

I think Ali is a good player but lacks the application to be a Test match batsman. Caves in too easy when the pressure is on.
Having said that India are a far better team than England

Maybe but most teams would struggle to cope without Stokes, Jofra, Broad, Butler. That would make it tasty

Bowlers failed in 2nd innings. Get them out for less than 200 and then, with almost a century lead, let them score nearly 500! Crap. If the bowlers had done their job twice we'd have won easily.
