Anyone know what the money was for finishing 7th this season? I’m hoping it was considerably better than last season finishing second.

There is no extra money for finishing positions in the EFL. The money goes into a pot and is shared.

Regardless of finishing position all teams in League One received a "basic award" of £677,000 each from the EFL plus a solidarity payment from the Premier League of £645,000 each per season.

Overall it works out as £420,000 extra than we received from the shared pot in League Two.
If we had got promoted to the Championship the total shared payout would have been £6.38 million.

Sounds fair as always

£6m is probably peanuts to most owners in the Championship who bank roll massive losses each year chasing the Premier League dream. Yet even half of that being given to L1 & L2 clubs would be a massive boost, it would certainly go a small way in closing the massive financial gap that has been allowed to open up between the Championship and L1.

Sadly not because the players wages would eclipse any increment the club would feel.

At higher levels at least30-60% of turnover is paid tonthe players

And that is what closing the gap is about, if clubs are silly enough to use this increment purely on players then so be it. At the very least they get a little closer and a little more competitive with the big spenders in the Championship.

Sensible clubs would invest in longer term income streams knowing that the solidarity money alone wouldn't be enough to ever truly match the Championship millions. Things like youth development, commercial infrastructure, training facilities however would provide longer term stability and competitiveness.

The route taken is purely down to the savy of the individual boards of these clubs but to suggest that either route won't in some way benefit smaller clubs is foolish, otherwise you may as well take away all sponsorship and TV revenue from all clubs since it doesn't benefit any of them.
